Wild Huckleberry Pie Filling Jar, 42oz

Delicious!!!

While its not the same as FRESH Huckleberries, this pie filling in a jar does fill a 9 inch pie, and produces a wonderful, genuine Huckleberry flavor and color that was quite close to the "real thing", i.e. making it directly from fresh or frozen berries. The pectin set nicely and the filling after backing was both moist and firm, not runny. While the berries were mostly crushed in the pectin, there were berries, round with skin on, that could be detected by sight and on the tounge. The result was a sweet and moist pie filling that was great. I asked people what they thought, and they said it was "SWEET." Though each modest size piece of pie is a $4 cost (just for the filling!), I plan to buy again!

Huckleberries are hard to pick and hard to find. Because of their scarcity hucklrberries are very expensive - up to and sometimes more than $100 a gallon. I love huckleberry pie. These are good with a lot of berries not just a few berries in a jell carrier. But they are a little too sweet for purists like me. However when you can’t source your own, they are a terrific choice.

I followed the instructions: shake jar well, pour in crust, bake. It came out soup. The flavor isn’t bad, a little tart. I highly recommend adding cornstarch slurry to compensate for the overly liquid filling. Or perhaps do a cobbler vs pie.

This came packaged really well. It was wrapped in a thick layer of bubble wrap, placed inside a box, then that box was also bubble wrapped and put in a bigger box. There was no damage at all when I got it. The pie filling tastes great as well. It was the perfect amount for one 10 inch pie. I recommend using a full butter pie crust recipe. It tastes much better with this filling than your standard boxed pie crusts.

I haven't had huckleberry pie in soooo many years. I purchased this filling, not knowing what to expect. The filling tasted great, it reminded me of the huckleberry pies and cobblers my grandmother used to make. Loved it and will purchase again.
