Marvellous Mucky Minibeasties
Susie Williams has created a fantastic series of books for kids about the bugs and beasties beneath our feet. There are 4 in the series "Ants", "Centipedes & Millipedes", "Snails" and "Worms". This is the one about snails and it is great. I got the hardback version. It's beautifully illustrated and packed full of fun facts. There's also an activity in the back with instructions to make your own "snail home". My 4 year old daughter really enjoyed the book and immediately went into the garden to take a closer look at all the snails.

Snail Mail
My child loves reading, both fiction and non-fiction. 'Snails' by Susie Williams suits down to the ground as it is a hybrid of the too. It is a non-fiction book but takes elements of fiction to give it a lighter feel. The book follows snails around and gives you a fact or two per page. There are enough snail facts here that most people will learn a thing or two. What makes the book stands out is that it is illustrated more like a storybook. The illustrations are magical and colourful. You get a sense of a snail’s perspective, but they are not too fussed with being true to nature. My child is happy just to be read a traditional non-fiction book, but if you have a child that is addiment that they will only look at fiction, this book is a great gateway into non-fiction. It is aimed at the 4-8-year-old market. I would say that the lower end of this scale suits the item better as an older child will probably want more information that this book offers.

Factual and unfussy
This is a well produced little book. Thereis a series of what is called Mucky Minibeasts and the subtitle to this one is snails. It is a hard back book which has32 glossy pages inside which included a glossary and index. The text which comes in small sections could have been a little larger but is child friendly and each page features snails with relevant text. The pages are really quite unfussy and factual which should please one 5 year old boy I am very close to. Age range is 4 to 8 years which seems about right although some 8 year olds may be looking got more> I like it
