Pricy GMP manufactured product with ingredients that may benefit the immune system
The Intelligent Labs Shield Immune System Support Formula arrives in a recyclable (HDPE-2) plastic bottle. Printed on the bottom is an expiry date (in UK terms 27-05-23 which is a short time and not impressive). On the bottle is a label with a great deal of information printed on in a tiny script. The most important are:This product is manufactured to GMP standards - which is good as it ensures product quality. The nutritional information - which is clearly shown in the advert; consists of vitamins, plus fruit, plant and herb extracts, and various gums. The dosages are clearly shown for Zinc plus Vitamins C & D3 but not for any of the other products. So, for example, you will not know the amount of beta-glucan in this preparation. It is clear that it will not be at the dosage level that the FDA considers beneficial - as the total weight of the immune blend is 520mg which is lower than the beta-glucan levels considered effective. Now I am not suggesting that all product dosages should be present for such a complex blend - but some may be more relevant.Overall I believe that for those who are deficient in zinc, vitamin D or vitamin C - then the addition of these in a supplement will aid immune function; as separately all three are involved in the immune system. If you are not deficient in zinc or vitamin C, because you have a balanced diet, then having excess is unlikely to assist immune function in any way. Due to the lack of sunlight in the winter in the UK, I believe there will be a significant proportion of the population that requires vitamin D3 as a supplement and research is convincing that this will aid immune function. As far as the 520mg proprietary immune blend goes I have no idea if it will be effective or not in improving the functioning of the immune system - if Intelligent Labs has evidence then they can share it with us.Most of the compounds listed in the proprietary immune supplement seem fine - but some, depending on the dose, may not be - for example resveratrol may worsen oestrogen-sensitive conditions and others on this list may interfere with blood thinning medication - so as the benefit is uncertain often best to discuss with your GP to ensure there is no increased risk.As this product is manufactured by GMP I would be happy to try it. Currently, its price point is £20.00 which may be justified if all the ingredients are effective but if the main benefit comes from Vitamin D3 - then the price is difficult to justify. I will try it and update the review if I have anything new to add.

Ideal for this time of year
I really appreciate the fact that this is a clearly marked vegetarian supplement with a vegetarian capsule shell. No mention of it being suitable for vegans so I suspect that the D3 might be vegetarian rather than vegan. The capsules are typical size and easy enough to swallow. You are getting 30 here and if you stick to the recommended serving size of one then they will last you around a month. Pretty good value for money at under £20. You get a decent expiry date so more than enough time to use this supplement up. Certainly one to consider for your immune health with a well thought out mix of D3, C, zinc and an extensive list of botanicals.

Good
Good well rounded supplement that doesn’t leave any nasty aftertaste and I haven’t felt any side effects from taking these. However tablets are huge and if you have troubles swallowing i don’t think these are for you.

“Big capsule and expensive!”
Presented well and seems quality. Capsules are big and would be a bit of a challenge to take daily. The price is way to expensive for me.

It tastes and smells vile.
The media could not be loaded. Sorry this tastes and smells really bad, It is hard to stomach it because of this. Essentially all the ingredients seem to be good for immunity as studying every single one took a bit of time. This contains some synthetic ingredients, and what gives it the horrible smell and taste maybe either Astragalus Root, Echinacea, Beta Glucan and or a combination of all of them together or a rotten garlic extract etc.. Ascorbic acid is synthetic so is the Vitamin D3 and D2 types. I was kind of hoping Vitamin C would be sourced from citrus pulp which is natural extracted from citrus fruit. This one isn't. I have no doubt all these ingredients do support cells from oxiditive stress, especially when training and working out, but my goodness that smell and taste is so off puting It's something that I just can't deal with and something worth noting, dosage isn't displayed either of the ingredients, so for all I know maybe underdosed. Finally supplements with Zinc in it, should also contain magnesium, as too much zinc in the body depletes magnesium and vice versa.
