Marineland has been around since the 1980's and for good reason. They make quality products that do what they say!There are always multiple ways to achieve the same or better results but making it foolproof and low cost makes for a more user friendly product. Marineland's HOB (Hang On Back) filtration allows anyone to have a good workable system whether it be fresh, brackish or even saltwater. It also makes the filtration maintenance part super easy! Simply rinse the cartridge to remove carbon settling in the filter media, remove the old cartridge and slide in the new one. It's literally that easy!Lately there have been filters with skimmers, heater attachments and what not to try and make it easier and more inclusive for tank owners but as a basic filter that works, these can't be beat. A fresh filter cartridge ensures that you're removing food and fish waste and helping to keep the nitrifying bacteria cycle in check. The filter media catches large and small pieces of waste and the carbon inside works to remove even more organic waste that if left unchecked will eventually kill your tank.Rinsing the cartridges in order to get more or another use is risky. Not saying it can't be done but what you're sacrificing is probably the most important part. The carbon which removes organic waste which includes waste breakdown, food breakdown, ammonia and materials you don't want to accumulate in your tank. Polishing the water which is what the fibrous media does only goes so far. What you can't see are the chemical build ups that are slowly reversing the good effects the filter is supposed to achieve. "Once the bad levels start to increase in your tank you'll play hell trying to right them and have to perform 3x-4x more work than if you'd simply installed a new cartridge. Maintenance with live animals takes work. And given the fact you don't have to walk them, take them to the vet or worry about them damaging your furniture, cords or any home appliances there's little excuse for not being able to "keep up with it".Marineland makes filters for almost every size tank and I've used many of them for close to 40 years and they do work! In saltwater I prefer now to use a sump system because of added live coral but even in a fish only environment or even some corals, if you do the proper maintenance when required this filter system works. For freshwater and or brackish water, it's even easier.It works AND it's convenient!

Great price on a product that does its job.My only issue is Amazon ships with the rest of my regular orders and all those products get covered in carbon dust every time. Can we not put this product in a plastic sealed bag?

The Emperor Filters are the Best Quality, and effective out there. There are 3 models with bio-wheels, and take Size E Cart rages. I use the Model 400 for my 45 gal frag tank, with up to 6 Alligator Snapping turtle hatchlings at a time. Most will argue that the 400 is overkill, you don't need a filter of that size. The Power, and the easy dissembly,the cartrages and the extra media holders for a custom mix of different media, from carbon to peat, and the bio-wheels that last for 3years. Hand down the best.The amazing low price's Amazons offers. These monster filters are like 50$. I thought the 400 model was 150$. It's worth that price. At petco two size E cartages sell for 13.99$ in Rhode Island. On Amazon, four Cartages sell for 8.99$ and If your smart enough to become a prime member, you will receive your order two days later free shipping.Next day delivery only 3.99$ Marine land Black-Diamond is the highest quality active carbon for sale. It's 3 dollars more than say Hagen carbon. But it last twice as long. The Emperor Filters come with great instructions, Bio-wheels and cartrages,cleaning brushes custom media holders and intake extensions for deeper water. I have owned a dozen Aquarium filters, used for Aquatic reptiles and freshwater fish. Old school air bubble filters to My favorite the Fluval FX-5 canister filter. The Emperor 400 will handle a 75gal tank. Id not hesitate to use one on a 30gal. For 50$ you can customize these babies for all Aquatic animals, and tank sizes. Marineland canaister filters are not the same quality as the Hang-on Emperor filters. There cheaply made I sent one back recently. I don't understand why the quality would not be upthere with there Emperior series? Eheim Canasters are rated the best. The fluval canasters are great. To replace the Media in the Green Machines will cost you 100$

These carbon filters are for my aquarium filter. In the past, these were sealed in a bag inside the box. No longer has the sealed bag so the black carbon gets on everything. Including anything shipped with it. I was able to clean the black carbon off the other items. Otherwise all is well. :)

I have been using the Marineland Emporer filter on my fish tanks for many years. It has a nice balance of mechanical, Chemical and biological filtration. This insert includes both mechanical and chemical aspects (via the activated carbon). It works effectively and is really reasonably priced from Amazon.The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the cartridge includes carbon built in. I don't necessarily mind this most of the time because after some time, it pretty much just becomes more biological material (Don't believe the myths out there, the carbon does not leach stuff back into the tank after 30 days). The part I don't like is if I want to medicate the tank I have to cut the back of the filter and shake out the carbon. It is not a big deal, is easy to do and the media is still sturdy after doing so, but it is a step that has to be done on those rare cases when a sickness does break out.I use this product primarily for the mechanical filtration and will often clean and reuse the same insert for 6 months or more. The filter material is sturdy and lasts for a long time.For what it is, it is an excellent product.

We have this on subscribe and save. The package is usually smashed when it arrives, but the filters are fine.

Cleans the debri from the tank. Keeps the water flowing clear.

Love this deal. I could not believe how great of a deal this is. Normally, I have to travel across the busy city to get to the one pet store (who can be a bit overpriced) in the entire city that carries these. Now, I can order them from the comfort of my home for CHEAPER. These are exactly what I wanted - same quality as the ones I would pick up at the local pet store. Not sure my fish care about how great a deal these were, but they sure appreciate how clean it keeps their tank. I 100% recommend this purchase.
