takes the smell of gas and oil out of the air

First time purchase:At first, I hung it without the plastic packaging in my small coat closet. But then the scent of it emitted outside my closet which tickled my nose & went to my head/brain. So then, I followed the instructions on the back on the product's package. It gave instructions to cut slits in the plastic packaging and have the air freshener barely stick out of it. Whew, the smells mellowed out and I felt better.It's been 10 days since I hung it. The smell is faint so I took off the plastic packaging. Air freshener is going through it's oxidation process and product's shelf life.

I recommend looks good if you have a black or white car

I had purchased a Yankee Candle Car Jar at Cracker Barrel. It was a plastic container shaped like a jar and worked very effectively and lasted a long time. The picture looks like what I had, but it is NOT. It is cardboard car air fresheners. I could have bought something like this at WalMart. Nowhere in the description does it correctly describe the product. Without reading the instructions, I opened one and took it out of the wrapping. Overpowering! I later read the instructions which made the product even less desirable. I want something that works and not something I have to work by trimming paper a little at a time, etc. I have never liked the cardboard air fresheners for the car and I don't like this one at all. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is the smell. Loved the smell--at least after it wore off a little. Since I went by the name and the picture (because of a lack of proper description) I cannot be sure of what the other products are so I will not be purchasing any more Yankee Candle Car Jars from Amazon until the description makes it clear what I am getting. If you like the cardboard fresheners and don't mind working with the paper periodically, go for it, but its not worth it to me. BTW, the other two in the package are still there.

Smells great, defeats odor. Lasts a long time.

These just don't smell as good as the car jars. They smell super artificial - just not good. I'll stick to car jars instead.

This is the best air freshener for vehicles ever. Not too strong, not too faint. Lasts a long time.

Mine didn't even last one day. Totally not worth the expense. I'd be better off going into the woods and taking a piece of pine off the tree. Save your money.

I expected this to smell like Christmas trees, or pine needles, but it had quite an acidic undertone, almost vinegar like. Would not buy this again.
