Extraordinary Investigations: The Morgan File: A Puzzle Novel

Extraordinary investigations proved to be utterly true to its title. My mid-pandemic brain was stretched, tested and strained to the max as I tussled with visual, verbal, logic and mathematical fixes and puzzles and often found myself cursing the author, yet unable to detach from the task.Rod Gillies clearly has an ‘extraordinary’ brain - as the mental meanderings, rabbit holes, twists and turns this puzzle book offers could only be the makings of a crazy genius. The book is beautifully designed, brilliantly written and both entertained and tested me in equal measure as well as giving me a much needed brush up on my historical knowledge.This is great for anyone who loves a BIG challenge, a generous dollop of conspiracy and a brain churning bit of escapist fun (although some of the tougher tests had me occasionally questioning whether fun equates to torture - please note there are three levels of hints for when you have run out of hair to pull out). Buy this and enjoy many hours of investigative fun. I hope there will be many more where it came from.

This is such a fab idea; a combination of puzzles and historical research providing hours of fascinating entertainment. Uding the book and the website you solve your way through a wide variety of puzzles, some of which are really challenging. And because you set up your own login different members of the family can work through at their own pace. We're both really enjoying it.

What an interesting and clever thing this book is! It’s a bit like a one-person non-time-limited escape room, in that it is a way to present engaging puzzles within a narrative structure which gives an extra layer of immersion into the created world. I have had a great sense of achievement from solving it so far, even where I have had to look at the hints at the back (providing 3 levels of hints is genius and I’ve only had to go to level 2 once!). Seriously, the only negative is I don’t want it to be over!

This was bought as a gift and has to be the biggest hit of Christmas. Absolutely brilliant! Really tests your brain, fantastic scenario. Can't say enough good things about it. Give it a go!

This is a most enjoyable book.It’s a collection of puzzles based around central mystery. As you solve the puzzles more of the story is revealed. Progress is recorded online in a retro-looking web portal. The variety of puzzle types is impressive, you don’t have to solve the same type twice.Highly recommended.

A modern day puzzle book with a difference. Went from scratching my head when I just couldn’t work something out, to the immense satisfaction of solving that clue that had been bothering me for some time (and then wondering why it took me so long in the first place). A cleverly written and very enjoyable book, and I hope a follow-up is forthcoming.

Fantastic I am delighted to have found a puzzle book that actually draws you in and not just random puzzles it's well laid out and detailed and soo food I bought a 2nd copy for a birthday gift.
