Chato's Kitchen

Great story with a nice twist!

This was one of my favorite books growing up. As a chicano kid, literature that I could relate to was hard to come by so when I came across this, I was quite excited. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is fun and engaging. The characters jump out of the book. I had no trouble imagining voices and personalities so of course, I had to buy this as an adult so I could practice those voices and personalities reading this out loud to my nieces and nephew.

Love Chato stories. So do my students. Gary Soto is awesome! Get it. I read this for my classroom and one of the Mexican American students loved it because she understood all the references. Hip and funny, but still works in the elementary school classroom.

My children LOVED this book back when they were little, and still now grown up. Ordered this book recently to give in lieu of a card for a baby shower and they loved it too! It's funny, the artwork is bright and colorful and exceptionally done. A book to pass down over and over again.

Love the series!

I read this story for a multicultural literature course. I loved the message and the way it was told. Chao is a fun character.

I bought this for a friend after having looked and read this. What a hilarious book. I loved it and I know she loved it as well. Great gift idea.
