Not as green as I'd like, but better than other options
This mattress, was fine and had less of an oder to it than my previous mattress, which I returned. I will admit that it did have a slight band-aid smell, but I used an organic wool mattress pad (which I HIGHLY recommend) and the smell never penetrated to my daughter. I too was wondering about the discrepency between what was listed on the mattress and what was written on the amazon description, so I wrote an email to the manufacturer. Below is the response I received (within less than 18 hours):First of all, thank you for your purchase. While rare, manufacturers' defects do occur. Please allow me to express my regrets that you are unhappy with your purchase. Many, many moms have bought this product and are very happy with it and it is disappointing to us to know there is a consumer out there that is not happy. All foam mattresses are urethane foam. What makes this mattress more ecologically friendlier than most is that the foam used to make this mattress replaces much of the petroleum based oils used to make the urethane foam with oils from plants. Unfortunately, at the current time the California Bureau of Home Furnishings does not distinguish from the two types of foams, just as it does not from organic material to regular material. We would be afoul of the law if we listed a non available component. The cover is a more ecologically friendly damask cloth cover versus a standard vinyl cover. Further, parents want their baby mattresses to have a waterproof cover. Urethane is used to make the damask cloth waterproof on the mattress she purchased. On the mattress you purchased the waterproofing was purposely put on the back side of the cover so that cloth would be closest to baby. All mattresses covered with any type of cloth claiming to be waterproof have had some type of waterproofing applied.

Strong Chemical Smell
We purchased this mattress for our portable crib, which came with a really lame 1/2 inch pad. It fit the crib well (no gaps) and we were initially happy with our purchase, because it claimed to be a more natural mattress, and we hoped our son would have a lower exposure to toxic fumes. At first, it didn't seem to have a chemical or plastic odor. We also liked that it was made in the USA, and was reasonably priced. However, when my son moved out of the portable crib, we stored the mattress in his closet, with a sheet on it to protect it from dust. Recently, I went to move the mattress and removed the sheet to put it in our closet, and it had a very strong chemical odor--so much so, that I had to put it outside. And when I looked at the tag, it says 100% polyurethane, which means it is most likely doused with fire retardant chemicals, since untreated polyurethane is extremely flammable. This is not disclosed in the product description. Definitely a disappointing example of "greenwashing" to sell a product.

Excellent Mini Crib Matress
So you're buying a mini crib/portable crib...first of all just know some come with a rinky-dink, less than 3/4" thick, fourth rate foam mattress. Which to me is equal to having NO mattress. Why not go with a reputable company that specializes in children's mattresses. This Colgate mattress is great as it is breathable, eco-friendly and fits snuggly in the Delta mini crib I bought in store from Babies R Us. (I believe it is also on Amazon.) One thing I learned in the search is that there are cheaper mattresses but you really do get what you pay for and with a price difference of about $20 (for a 3" mattress,) why not buy a mattress that is better for your baby. Also it is IMPORTANT to note that NOT ALL mini cribs are a STANDARD SIZE! I went back to Babies R us to measure the crib and compared with the specs listed--which luckily worked for us.

love it!
I bought two of these for my mini cribs at my in home daycare. They were only a couple dollars more than the last mattresses I purchased that barely held up for 6 months. We are an eco-friendly daycare so I was excited to see these. Sadly after mine got here, I went back to buy one more and it was all of a sudden $20 more per mattress than what I had purchased not even a week before. If they drop back down to $40-45 I will purchase again, however at $60+ that's too far out of my budget.

Great mattress for mini cribs
I like this mattress. My son have been sleeping on it for 2 years already and the mattress holds up really well. It's still like new, no change in shape.I've put it in DaVinci Alpha Mini Rocking Crib and it fits perfectly, snug and safe. I like that it's extra firm and thick - I sleep on firm mattresses all my life and believe that it's a healthy habit. My son was sleeping on it very well (he never slept in our bed and is not spoiled with softer beds). After receiving the mattress I aired it out for a couple of days, put waterproof and cotton fitted sheets on and that's it! No strange odor or any other issues.

Very Good Mattress
We bought the Ecru version of this mattress for the Davinci Alpha mini crib after returning the MDB Crescent mattress that we were very disappointed in. We are very happy with this product, it fits the crib very well, it is light (making sheet changes easier), it is firm (but not uncomfortably so) and it is easy to get bedding for (we bought great sheets for it at b4y b4y b@by).Regarding the chemical smell mentioned in some of the reviews, ours didn't have any. I am not sure, but I think that problem is specific to the white mattress not the ecru. It is strange that Amazon grouped them together into one product page as they are entirely different mattresses, with the ecru ecopad being much more environmentally friendly than the white alternative.

She falls asleep beautifully. The thin foam mat that comes with pack ...
First of all, I did loads of research on mattresses. There is no other company I would buy a mattress from. The quality is top notch. If you think your baby doesn't know the difference, you are wrong. I watch my granddaughter and she naps in the pack and play with this mattress. She falls asleep beautifully. The thin foam mat that comes with pack and play are just for show. There are cheaper mattresses you can buy for pack and play but trust it is so worth the few extra dollars.
