Mattel Bug Racer Vehicle

I saw this at a Science and Surplus store when I was out with my kids a few years ago, and my then-4-year-old fell in love with the "bug movile" and really wanted me to add it to his wish list. He had a long wish list, and it wasn't one of the things we got him for that Christmas. Anyway, cue to last year, when we were at a tree-lighting ceremony and they had one of those "meet Santa" events going on. We were in a hurry to meet my MIL, so I was holding his hand, following my hubby. As we passed the Santa, I heard my son mumble quietly, "I just wanted to tell Santa that I really wanted the bug movile since I didn't get it last year." I knew he was saying it to himself, but my heart broke, and darn it if I wasn't going to get him the bug movile that he wanted.I checked back at the Science and Surplus store and a few other educational toy stores but I couldn't find it anywhere. Cue Amazon search. Not only did they have it, and deliver it promptly, but it was "EXACTLY THE BUG MOVILE THAT I ALWAYS WANTED!!!!" -my son.I would 100% recommend it. It moves and plays sound on its own--we haven't tried any crickets because it's still winter here. But maybe when we finally thaw out and we find a cricket outside we'll try it.

My expectations weren't high for this vehicle, given the price. I would have been happy if it just drove around a bit on auto mode. But this thing is AWESOME! We just bought crickets to drive it today and every time we get them driving it, my three-year-old boys and I bust out laughing. It drives great, with or without bugs in the driver's seat - even K-turning itself out of tricky situations. When it hits an obstacle, it backs up and turns around. It drives over low bumps easily and is an absolute blast. Let's hope it lasts! Will be purchasing again for family gifts - this is totally worth the price.

We have one for our daughter and son, and they both love playing with them.

The whole idea of this toy is so disgusting to me but my son really wanted it for his birthday. He kept hoping to catch a bug to put in it and I didn't bother to mention you can buy crickets at the pet store. Since the toy can work without a bug in it I didn't feel to bad because he still got to play with it. It's a weird little toy but he liked it.

Purchased this as Christmas gifts for my great nephews. It was the hit of the party!! Pleasantly surprised when I received, as it is much bigger than I thought it would be. Purchased live crickets the night before, kept them in a jar overnight, and let the boys choose their own cricket. FYI -- crickets love to eat diced up potatoes & carrots ... Who knew??? These vehicles really work & the live crickets made them all the more fun!!!

Bought this as a birthday gift for my grandson so it wasn't opened right away. Gave it to him this past weekend and right out of the box all it would do is just play music. It made no movement at all with crickets in it or on the automatic setting that did not require insects. We tried 2 sets of batteries in it and it would not operate properly. Saw on you tube video that others have had this problem also. I guess writing this review is the only recourse I have since my 30 day return window has now closed. I'm out approximately $30 for a piece of junk and have a very disappointed grandson. Don't waste your money on this product and lesson to self and everyone else.....read the return policy for the item you are purchasing. I very seldom have to return anything to Amazon so I haven't made a habit of reading the return policy but I will from now on. This was a gift and was not given and opened immediately and now I have paid for something that doesn't work and I can't get my money back or get it replaced!!

My son bought this with a gift card, and it works great. Only 4 stars because the music and noises this thing makes is too loud.

I bought this for my nephew who loves bugs. Unfortunately, I wasn't there to see him open it, but I am told it was his favorite gift. He really loves it. He loved it even more when they discovered you could use batteries too. Great idea for kids who love cars and bugs!
