Body-Solid GFID31B Adjustable 600 lbs. Capacity Flat, Incline, and Decline Weight Bench for Strength Training, Stretching, Ab Exercises, and Dumbbell Curls

These benches are Gym quality. I bought an early version of a Body Solid FID bench back in 1998. I am not sure if it even cost $165 back then. It had a Rail-and-Pin back adjustment mechanism like the Body Solid FID46 instead of the simpler, faster, 6-Position Ladder-Style Back Pad Adjustment. Instead of an Eight Position Seat Adjustment, it had only three adjustment levels. The frame was longer and made from a slightly heavier gauge of steel. The wheels were rubber and the whole thing was difficult to maneuver. The end caps for the legs were rubber as well and had a tendency to slip off. Despite all of this, it was the best bench I had ever owned. A word of warning. I ruined that old bench by buying the attachments. Just the bench by itself was enough.I never though that I would find a better bench than that old Body Solid, but this new Body Solid GFID31 has been tweaked in a dozen ways and is superior to that old bench.I use a bench for dumbbell workouts only (2 x 52 lb. Adjustable) and for that purpose, it works for me. I like the height of these benches as it facilitates comfort. It is easier to get on and off. For 61-year-old, Seniors like myself, comfort carries a premium. The bench is padded so well that it could easily serve as a chair in a Dentist's office. It is a dream to workout on. The added height also facilitates a prone rowing position if one lays down facing the back rest.The backrest on the bench not only serves as a Press and Fly support, but can be used as a platform for supported rowing at various angles. Six backrest positions and eight seat positions add tons of variety. That is versatility folks. This bench also serves for a properly aligned prone crunch. The seat adjustment is very helpful in aligning hips. I use it for a Roman Chair crunch and a declined crunch, declining pullover, declined bench press, seated press, ad infinitum. The Rollers allow the ability to lock the legs in position and creates great stability for specific exercises. At 5'9" my feet fit into the rollers without bumping into legs on the bench.The old bench, as well as this new one, leaves a three-inch gap between the seat and the backrest. This gap has to be there for the bench to be elevated. I believe it is designed to accommodate the lower lumbar arch of the back. In other words, the back is supposed to simply arc over the gap. This doesn't work for me and my butt has a tendency to get into the gap. I think that an additional three-inches in seat length would solve the problem. For now, I have a foam roller I use to fill the gap.To conclude. When I am comfortable and using a very versatile piece of equipment, I'm happy, and the GFID31 is as close to perfect as I've come across to date.

The steel Round End Cap #8341-033 that secures the foam rollers to the ankle support bar and knee support bar are extremely difficult to install. Using a rubber mallet, I've smashed my fingers and thumbs, and that's after removing the Nylon End Washers--which are not needed. I've only been able to install one end cap; three have broken tangs.The end pieces are sorry, ridiculous design misfit on an otherwise very solid bench. I ponder why Body Solid can provide fairly decent square or rectangle end pieces for the steel bench members but provide impossibly unworkable steel end pieces for the ankle and knee support bars (Part G and Part K). Without the end caps, my $310 investment looks unfinished and amateurish. I've notified the seller. Waiting for his response.9/27/2017: Seller responded stating manufacturer, Body Solid, is sending a new style of end cap pieces that should be much easier to install. Seller's response and communication have been outstanding. If I receive the end pieces and they install easier, I'll re-rate for 5 stars. The bench is really a solid, nice bench. BTW, the bench surface, when level, is 22 inches off the floor. It's a "tall-person's" bench.9/29/2017: I received the new end cap pieces in the mail today--Thank you! They are newly re-designed made of tough plastic. All you need is a mallet; they can be pounded in easily. Now the bench looks complete and very nice. The bench pads, btw, are a solid two inches of firm, dense padding. I've re-rated the product for 5 stars. But beware: this bench won't work well for short people, say under 6 feet or so. Also received in the product package was two small containers of touch-up paint for the steel members. Product comes with life-time warranty. Assembly, btw, is a breath-taking moment at first glance--like, "What have I gotten into?" But if you lay out the pieces, start from the bottom and work up, it becomes easy fairly quickly. No parts were missing in my product box.

Excellent product and instructions could have been better one of the wheels was missing a bearing. Otherwise good product

Great bench but the assembly instructions were almost non existent.

Habe die Bank jetzt seit ca. zwei Monaten im täglichen Gebrauch und bin absolut zufrieden. Lieferung durch simpleproducts innerhalb zwei Werktagen-Top nach Bestellung! Alle Teile einwandfrei angekommen. Zusammenbau etwas umständlich, da es als Aufbauanleitung nur eine Explosionszeichnung gibt, aber der Aufbau hat trotzdem problemlos geklappt. Mit anständigem Werkzeug ist das alleine innerhalb 90min locker zu schaffen. Alle gelieferten Teile haben gepasst und die Bank funktioniert noch wie am ersten Tag, absolut und ohne jede Einschränkung zu empfehlen.Ich hatte noch das Curl-Pult dazubestellt, das gefällt mir weniger. Der Winkel der Armauflage ist mir zu flach und die Hantelstangenaufnahme ist für eine SZ_Stange völlig ungeeignet
