Almost perfect
We ordered 8 for our house, and 8 for another house. Out of those, I've only had one that was faulty. They are unreturnable, but you can chat live or call Amazon about it, which I did. I explained the error message, that we installed at three different spots, tested out other detectors in those same locations, and this one was the only not hardwiring in and showing a faulty code. Since I could detail out all of the issues, they issued an immediate refund and it was easy to handle. I'll order a new replacement and fingers crossed it works like the other 15!

Easy to install
Had to change connector wire for unit. New ones came with units. Mine were 20 years old. Changed out 6 in 30 minutes. Working great and mine are linked together through red wire. Love the idea of 10 year battery life. Let’s hope this will be true.

Lets hope it lasts 10 years
Replacing my Nest Protect devices as I will not sign up to have Google on my devices. This one is dumb but serves its purpose. 3 more to go when I get the dead battery notifications from Nest. Fitted easily so I hope I can get the same ones in the future. There are cheaper ones out there but I went with a known brand.

Easy DIY install even in powered setup
I use these to replace existing hardwired smoke detectors in areas where the detector is very high up on the ceiling and requires a ladder to change the batteries every 6 months. Now I don't have to change the battery at all! This detector comes with the three wire dongle. Just be sure to turn the power off and connect the line voltage and sensing wire to the existing wiring. Mounting bracket comes complete with new drywall anchors.

Great for those hard to reach places
Since code requires smoke detectors pretty much everywhere, they can end up in the hardest to reach, most dangerous places. This detector is more expensive than many because it comes with a 10-year internal battery. Not having to climb up a tall ladder and try to reach out over the abyss to replace batteries every 6 months to a year, or alternatively not have a working smoke detector, might actually one day save my life.UL code also requires that smoke detectors have an internal expiration system. The old smoke detectors would get less and less sensitive and you would never know. 10 years is about the best you can get on a residential detector and these have a 10 year guaranteed lifespan, including the battery. They are A/C powered and will not last 10 years on the battery alone. The battery is for when the power goes out. Most batteries will just self-discharge over time even when they are not being used. Now for the misinformation on some of the reviews. You *do not* get 10 years life from the manufacturing date. You get 10 years life from installation. When the detector is first mounted onto the mounting plate, a tab is permanently moved and the electronics start up. Getting ones manufactured 6 months ago doesn't mean you lose 6 months of life. I have not been able to determine the manufacturers maximum shelf life, but it is most likely a couple of years.I am very happy these are available. I would love an infinite lifetime so I never have to go up there again to replace one, but this is as good as it gets right now.

This is a wired alarm and should be used on a connected system with ac power.
Needed to replace unit in attic that was damaged from a power surge due to a nearby lightning strike. It is an exact replacement and installed easily. However, you should consult a professional for installation for proper protection.

4 out of 8 have been defective, going off repeatedly at night for no reason at all
We have been struggling with these units for years and my conclusion is that they are simply awful products. About 20 times over the past two years they have gone off for no reason. about 4 times out of 5 it happens late at night (call it 10pm to 5am). So clearly there's some temperature correlation going on. Also the false positives almost always begin in a bedroom. The current (lame) working theory is that they are so poorly designed that human exhalation in a bedroom, even with doors and windows open, is enough to set them off at night. We are in a 4 bedroom house and they are the i2010s units, interlinked. 4 units in the bedrooms plus another on the ground floor in a hallway and another in the finished basement, so 6 total. And then to test a theory early on we replaced 2.None are near cooking, none are exposed to excess humidity, I have vacuumed them all out carefully, I have blown them all out carefully with canned air, I have meticulously reset them all multiple times following manufacturing instructions. Our electrician has been out countless times and hates them as much as I do. There doesn't seem to be any correlation with "windy nights", or with nights where we had open windows or all closed windows. We have previously thought we had tracked it to one faulty unit and replaced that unit with a new one from Kidde, only to have another unit start doing the exact same thing 6 months later. All of these are manufactured in 2020 or 2021. Now 2 years later the data is incontrovertible - these are simply terrible products that suck.So don't waste your time. My kids have been woken up by them at 2am so many times that they don't even get out of bed anymore.

Don't bother buying!
This is the second smoke alarm from the same company that was defective. Keeps going off every 15 to 30 min with 3 long beeps saying " fire" There's not damn fire! lol So annoying. Luckily i bought the first one at Home depot. They replaced it no problem. But now I made the mistake of buying on Amazon. This new one is doing the same stupid thing! Amazon won't return it or replace. Total BS! Now I"m out this money for a crappy smoke alarm! Stupid things are made in china too, there's a clue!

The WORST alarm on market. Goes off for no reason. Item shows refundable but seller refuses to take it back.
