It's neat
This is a neat re-telling of The Odyssey. Unlike many adaptations, it doesn't slavishly reproduce the original. Rather, it makes interesting changes and thinks about how this story can be best told through the medium. My problem with books such as Eric Shanower's Age of Bronze series is that it's just a straight re-telling of a story in a different medium (ie, poem to comic). That doesn't exploit the potentialities of the medium. Why not just read The Odyssey? In the Infinite Horizon, however, Duggan re-casts Odysseus as a survivor of the Afghanistan war. He has various trials and tribulations getting home. Odysseus' problems of Homer - fidelity, family, relationships with the Gods - are re-figured as issues of US aggression, drug abuse among soldiers, and, well, infidelity. That is, Duggan does interesting things with the original narrative - he has a reason for his adaptation. (He's also pretty funny on Twitter.)That said, the art is at times too simplistic, and detracts from the development of character and the story. Otherwise, it's worth a read.

modern reworking of an ancient tale
I enjoyed this graphic novel retelling of The Odyssey, the story of how a warrior returns home from distant lands (here, Iraq rather than the Trojan War) and never gives up the desire to get back to his wife and son. I liked the way the story of his wife Penelope is interspersed with his, and I looked forward to, and was pleased by, the modern-day parallels to the adventures of Odysseus.I hadn't read work by Gerry Duggan before, but will look for more. Phil Noto's artwork was very good, focusing more on realistic elements (though he had some good surreal work as well) and less on the gore.

Infinite review
This comic is a modern reinterpretation of Homer's Odyssey that places an American soldier in the role of Odysseus as he tries to return home to his wife and son. After the U.S. war on terror takes a disastrous turn and the world crumbles under the weight of a collapsing America, one man must make his way back home from the Middle East to his family who are waging their own war for survival against greedy neighbors and corrupt officials who want to steal their precious water supply. The story is well told for the most part and mirrors many of the trials and tribulations of the Odyssey very well. However, the story does bog down a bit in the middle, much like the original, and the artwork is not of a quality to keep things moving on its own. The artwork is very simple and flat and isn't helped much by the muted, painted, coloring style that seems to be popular in indie comics these days. All in all, this is an interesting book but you may be left scratching your head if you aren't familiar enough with the source material to follow the muddled artwork.

Modern retelling of The Odyssey
I had to read "The Odyssey" five times throughout my schooling career, and I read it at least two and a half times. So I appreciated the Infinite Horizon as a way to retell that story in a modern setting, but it works really well. As I read, I kept wondering how were they going to handle the suitors who hung out at Odysseus' wife's house for 10 years? How were they going to do the cyclops, the sirens, etc. The answer is that they do them all very well. My sister-in-law is a high school English teacher. I suggested that she use it as a way to make the Odyssey relevant to kids raised with smart phones.Outside of the whole Odyssey connection, I'm a fan of so-dystopian-they're-almost-post-apocalyptic stories. This qualifies as one of those too. Long story short; it's great.

Conflicted
I really wanted to like this book. I haven't read anything by Duggan before, but I really dug Noto's work on titles like X-Force and the artwork he put up on his site. I just didn't get pulled into it, I thought I would... but didn't. Even Noto's work felt a little stiff in this one. Maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea but I didn't enjoy it all that much. It was ok, the guy with the cyclops armor was cool, but it just felt like a book that lasted a little too long.

All you really need to know is that this book is well written and the art is great. I loved the parallels it made with the Odyssey, very interesting.

A new journey!
Infinite Horizon by Duggan and Noto is a really good reimagining of The Odyssey set in the near future. The main character goes through hell to get back to his family while she deals with the changing world. While you know he'll make it back, its an amazing journey. Noto's artwork is typical for his body of work with some great visuals but some lackluster backgrounds. Overall, this well worth the time.

the artwork good but basic and all in all a worthwhile purchase
Clever retelling of homer's Odyssey set in a not to distant future where war has decimated the middle east and caused a breakdown in oil being distributable leading to total global and economical collapse. The story focuses on an unnamed Captain(Odysseus) who after seeing to the evacuation of civilians with the aid of his squad attempts to make his way home to his wife Penelope and their son. On the way they encounter pirates, sirens calling people to a sanctuary and a psycho Russian soldier in a Cyclops suit. This being only the second graphic novel I have read(a friend lent me Preacher) I found the story was entertaining, the artwork good but basic and all in all a worthwhile purchase.

Beautiful reworking of the Odyssey
Excellent reworking of the Odyssey, beautiful artwork and clever use of Homer's text. This would be perfect for the layman who has no idea of Homer, the story of a dystopian future and a man's journey home, and his family's trials at home, and also for any Classicist interested in graphic novels as a genre or reception of the ancient world
