Not as Useful as it Could Have Been
Good general Bible helps in the front and back of the book. The CEV is in the Good News school of translation. My quibbles are with the special features relating to poverty and justice. (1) The relevant (?) passages are highlighted in orange in a kinda artistically casual way (ie, not always extending to the ends of the lines of the text) but there is no notation as to why specific verses were included. Some are prescriptive, some are descriptive and some are headscratchers as to their relevance. There is also no list of all the passages highlighted. A topical index would be very helpful. As it is, you flip through the pages, see a highlighted verse or passage and are left to work out its reason for inclusion. (2) The topic of violence isn't specifically addressed, which is odd since it so often accompanies and accomplishes injustice. The reason for the Noahic flood is violence, according to Genesis 6:11, 13, yet they are not highlighted. Matthew 26:52, where Jesus rebukes Peter for lashing out with his sword during Christ's arrest, is not highlighted. Nor is violence a topic addressed in The Core, the central booklet within a book, that discusses things like Women, Water, Abuse (sexual), etc. It's a pretty glaring omission. This is a good start but more work should have been done besides highlighting, insertion of a booklet and including multiple forwards by people involved with relief and social justice. It is best used as one tool among others in a multiweek Bible study series on such issues.

Love it!
I cannot get enough of this Bible! If you are a Christian who feels your church (or even those who do not) is no longer embodying the true message of Jesus - caring for those struggling...this is your Bible! All verses pertaining to poverty and justice are highlighted in orange - basically looks as if someone went through your Bible and highlighted each of these texts. There is a section in the middle of Proverbs with devotionals/studies about different topics surrounding social justice issues. The cover is thick - stock paper like, with a folding page back into the Bible on the front and back (probably does not make visual sense until you have the Bible in person.I gave this gift to my Christian ethics professor who recommended me to law school - he loved it! I recently ordered 6 more to give to others.Well worth it!

Good Reference
The Poverty and Justice Bible is a fun reference with God's Words regarding the poor and ideas of justice marked in orange. The center of the Bible has everyday ideas of how the individual might bring justice or help the poor in everyday life. The Poverty and Justice Bible does not stay open by itself and has to be weighted by an object or another book. The print is also quite small. I do prefer a Bible where the binding allows the Bible to lie flat on a table or in my hands. For those avid justice seekers, you can expect nearly the entire book of James to be marked in orange for its many passages on the underserved and downtrodden.

My favorite Bible
This is the first CEV Bible I've owned, and I'm sold on it. I think it's a great version for personal study, and I like the insights gained through the footnotes included. All "poverty" and "justice" passages are orange, which helps me put more thought into what I am reading. At times I have to stop to contemplate why a passage has been marked, but deeper reflection is a big plus for me with this Bible.I will say that I don't grab this Bible when I'm headed to church. The rearranging of the passages for clearer reading make it hard to follow along when another version is being read. It is very distracting for others if in class I use this version to read aloud as well.

Pleased
Prompt, as Stated, PleasedEasy to scan and look at highlighted verses and think about what the message tells us about responsibilities for the less fortunate. In the early worshipping communities almost all donations went to the poor and it would have been almost impossible to find a congregation with a debt of any kind. For the first three hundred Christian years, church buildings were not an issue. Today only about 2% of Church donations go to the poor. Most of the donations, we spend on ourselves. We show the sincerity of our faith by building the most splendid underutilized buildings. Something has really changed.

The Whole Counsel of God
A Bible that actually highlights the real message of the Gospel. Poverty used to be the church's business. Now the church does 12 part teachings on psychology and happiness and no lessons on taking care of the poor. The government is now the new God with their stings attached. It was never supposed to come to this. Jesus wants us to take charge of those in need as the Body of Christ. This is a unique Bible. Simple but powerful.

" The poor are the "neighbors" the Bible most often tells us ...
The "Poverty and Justice Bible" is a clear, readable translation. And, through highlighting, it shows what the Bible says about two of the most prominent facets of one of its two most important commands: to "love our neighbors." The poor are the "neighbors" the Bible most often tells us to love, though there are many others as well. And the greatest need those poor have, judged by the number of verses devoted to it, is justice. (For instance, the Bible says that a farmer's fields may be good, but injustice denies him their riches.) This Bible is well worth reading.

Very Satisfied Customer
The Book arrived in better condition than was advertised (it was a used book). The price was good and the book was delivered near the beginning of the stated window for delivery.

A must have in today's world.
A useful acquisition for anyone interested in preaching and in social justice. Certainly focuses thoughts and impressions down a different and sometimes difficult path. This copy was the American version and occasionally the spelling is a little harsh but the "English" version was much more expensive. A small sacrifice to make and easily overcome.
