A great summer read
I make a habit of reading a W.E.B. Griffin book almost every summer. I think they make the perfect beach book. They read easily, hold my attention, and are chock full of historical information. I always enjoy a fiction book where I still feel like I am picking up all sorts of historical info. This is the second book in the series about the exploits of a former Marine Corps Aviator turned OSS operative in World War II Argentina. Griffin always paints the military in a good light, but he really loves the Marine Corps. His extremely detailed knowledge of the German military makes his Nazi characters feel genuine. It was obvious Griffin spent considerable time in Buenos Aires, since the city and its culture are described in such intimate detail. While he is known as an action writer, most of the 600+ page book is extensive dialogue. The German and Argentine characters speak in a very formal and drawn out manner, which while realistic, often slowed the pace of the book down. Most of the action takes place in the final 150 pages of the book. These were all minor points. It was a great summer read and I look forward to the final book in the series.

Blood and Honor, part of a great action series.
This is the second volume in the "Honor Bound" series. In order, the series consists of "Honor Bound," "Blood and Honor," "Secret Honor," "Death and Honor," and the latest volume, "Honor among Spies."Set in Argentina (primarily) during World War II, this series features a blend of fictional and historical characters including the rich and/or powerful in Argentina, America and Germany. This very well researched series of historical novels delves into the international intrigues associated with Nazi influence in South America as well as U.S. efforts to blunt it through use of the Office of Strategic Services (O.S.S.).The characters are fascinating. Even some of the "bad guys" are human and likable. I began the series out of sequence by reading "Death and Honor." I have now read the first four and will wait for a paperback release of the fifth.W.E.B. Griffin is an excellent storyteller. This is not only one of the best action series I've picked up in recent years, it is warm, humorous at times, and fascinating. For the beginning reader of this series, I suggest reading them in order. If you have not read "Honor Bound," get a copy and read it before "Blood and Honor." Then move on along to the later novels. Even reading the series out of order, though I consider this series one of my best entertainment investments in recent years. As an (amateur) military historian, I have very much appreciated Griffin's blending of action and history in a part of the world (South America) we hear and think too little about.

Start with this book in the series.
This book sets the stage for the rest of the series. Griffin writes complex sentences that require every punctuation rule ever invented to provide organization, sometimes causing me to go back and figure out what the subject was. Griffin's wild imagination is just getting started with this novel. You will want to read the rest of the series, but make sure you get them in order as it drives me nuts reading something I already know the outcome of.The ensuing books all spend the first 10-15% rehashing the past. If you aren't ready for this, you mistakenly think you've already read this book somewhere. But keep speed reading until you start hitting the new stuff. Then settle down to deciphering the sentences and trying to remember the characters of which there are plenty.By the way the hard cover versions are edited better. The Kindle versions all have numerous, annoying glitches--like spaces inserted into words and hyphens in the wrong place--apparently cause by the conversion process. This is true for every one of the ebooks. Now I almost automatically put the words back together, but I don't like to stumble over editing errors.

Classic Griffin, damaged by poor proofreading (Kindle Edition)
If you are reading Griffin, you pretty much know what to expect. I do like reading his books and have purchased and read most of them. I purchased Blood and Honor as a Kindle book, which sells for about the same price as the print version. Unfortunately, it is not edited as well, In my copy there were many instances of words that had been cut in two with a space ins erted in the middle of the word. This happened in many (hundreds) of places within the volume. Please Amazon, if you are going to charge full price for the Kindle edition, provide at least as good of a reading experience than I would get from the paperback.

W.E.B. Grffin Books are very good. Kindle is over priced so buy the Hardcovers for $4.00 less and wait for delivery.
I have read many of W.E.B. Griffin Series from the Corps thru Badge of Honor and 6 books of the Honor bound series. I find all the books good and have purchased many of them in soft and Hard Cover. I was hoping to read more on Kindle for free in my Unlimited 30 days trial but to be frank charging me for the privilege to read them electronically or listen to the books I find outrageous on a "free subscription. I have canceled the Kindle subscription and have done my last search for books via Kindle. I would rather buy Hardcopy versions of the books at under $5.00 and wait for them to arrive to read at a later date.
