Balanced commentary of Luke and John
This is a balanced commentary of the last two Gospels and this is the strength of the series. However, it is not as detailed and comprehensive as in Raymond Brown's two-volume classic commentary of John's Gospel. For example, I would have liked it more if more historical, sociological and political background were included. I think its strength is its conciseness and balance, and being careful not to go too far in speculating certain passages as doctrine. It leaves the reader with Reflections sections for further study. As I delve more into commentaries, I am finding that there is no ONE source that has everything I could want. I am happy with this purchase but at some point, I will probably acquire more commentaries from Anchor Yale, Sacra Pagina, Hermeniea, etc. Just have to find a bigger house to store all these books and get a fifth job to pay for them!God bless!

Good and Understandable
In comparison to other commentaries I have tried to use to study scripture, this one is definitely written in a way a non-Divinity degree holder can follow. I did not have do a deep research dive of terms to understand what was being explained and I love how the scripture is there for you to read before reading the commentary.

Great Commentary series
An excellent resource book. So far I have just read Gail O'Day's commentary on John, but I really like this series, and her insights are superb. Was quite helpful in rewriting my own lesson plans on John's Gospel. Recommend it highly.
