Very good product for the price! Heavy built.

Works well, inexpensive for what it does. It is not possible to fully check a battery or charging system without putting a load on them and this unit does that accurately and easily. Easy to use and able to test many systems on the car. The big tool MFG's charge so much more for a similar product. The only thing that would be nice is a separate inductive clamp for amps but then it would be thousands not hundreds. Clamps and cables are good and seem like they will hold up and with a fan on the carbon pile it will keep it cool and last for awhile.

I was a bit nervous about ordering this unit because of a few negative reviews. But, I decided to give it a chance as the specs were solid, and the positive responses far outweighed the negative ones. I already have a really nice Sun VAT-40, which is an excellent unit despite being nearly 40 years old. Those thing were built to last a few lifetimes. But, I wanted a smaller, more portable portable unit that could handle more than 500 amps for a load test, just because. I did a load test on a recently charged battery side by side with our Sun VAT-40. I found the amperage and voltage meters were plenty accurate, and the carbon pile was easily able to put a 500 amp load on the test battery. I rarely use the unit, but when I do I find it is a solid performer.

Great old school tester.

I needed a load tester for 24v system. This unit works great as it should. Built pretty solid with very nice battery clamps. Upon receiving the tester I noticed a rattle when unboxing the unit. Disassembled the case to find a clamp sliding around the inside of the case. Looking at the other installed clamps I figured where it should go and installed it myself. It is made in China.

It is BIG. It is a different animal than people are used to. Carbon pile that is adjusted by pressure and released. Dial up to the current you want to test and hold for the test period then let off back to zero. Knob is spring loaded to zero. Will not hold position by itself, completely operator controlled. Some have mentioned the amount of turn before you start reading... was going to reduce that but decided it is best for safety to have the gap. Gap may be less for the different current models. High current testing is not done for long due to heat capacity. Does have large cooling fan to cool the Pile. Picture shows 24 volt in 5x pairs of 12volt deep cycle batteries.

I just received this tool and tried it on a battery back. It works well and is fairly consistent. The current draw creeps up gradually as the innards heat up. It leveled off after about 3% and stayed steady at 45 to 50a. I tried it at 100a and it kept going into an alarm beep after 5 or 10 seconds. I havent read the instructions yet so maybe it's supposed to do that. You know...when all else fails, read instructions. Seems like a worthy investment.

It is heavy duty enough that I have tested 4, 950 cca batteries all within minuets of each other wirh out it overheating. So far so good.

I have had a carbon pile tester for many years and it finnaly stopped working so I replaced it with this unit. It arrived quickly and it is a solid built unit but when I unboxed it to put it to work the volt meter was not working. Kind of disappointing with a new tester and was not looking forward to a return process so I decided to open it up and have a look see. Turned out that it was a wire crimp terminal not making a good contact. Very easy fix and is working great.

Great analogue tester. Accurate and simple.

Excellent tool for the money but you must make sure the dial is off before you hook up positive clamp. If the meter is in contact with frame of car because the ground clamp is also grounded to meter housing and will cause arcing between case and frame.

Works great, for 6, 12 or 24 volt, shipped fast.
