The Be Good Tanyas' Frazey Ford is set to release her debut solo album "Obadiah" on July 20. "Obadiah" combines Frazey's gorgeous sultry vocals that helped define the Tanyas' sound, with her ever growing love for soul music, adding a rich fullness and bottom end to the 13 tracks the comprise the debut. Recorded during a blissful Vancouver summer, "Obadiah" is a collection of songs hand-carved by the hardships and exaltations of life, and stained with the rich colors of soul and folk music that fueled artists like Joni Mitchell, Ann Peebles, Neil Young, and Donny Hathaway.

Run, Don't Walk, To Buy This Record Now
I'm a fairly voracious music consumer, whether it be CDs, live downloads, miscellaneous other downloads (no, I've never "stolen" even one single song off the internet which an artist should have been paid for), streams, online radio (if I may digress briefly on that note, thank you KCRW for being the best), and on and on and on. Through all this, I've run across a lot of good music, but it's not often that a musician or band grabs my attention instantly with the force Frazey Ford did the first time I heard her. Some have said her voice reminds of Janice Joplin, or maybe Joni Mitchell, and a few others, but it's fair to say Ms. Ford has a voice like no one else. The ambience is hazy, sexy, and stimulating, the kind that keeps your attention from beginning to end, and there's not a bad track on the record.I'd almost be willing to guarantee you'll probably find yourself mesmerized and immersed in it after multiple spins and listens. So far, I may have heard the album in its entirety about three or four times, but can already tell it'll be spending a lot of time in my players.

Music for my soul
I'd never heard of Frazey Ford until a month ago. Never heard of the Be Good Tanyas either because I don't listen much to Bluegrass or Folk. But, I love great singing and songs whatever the genre and I was lucky enough to hear a couple of Frazey's songs on an internet radio station. I bought the 3 Tanyas cds instantly and then Obadiah. Well, this woman's songs and singing go right to my heart and soul. No question her voice is beautiful and her singing style is unique. Just beautiful, quirky, even angelic, yet very earthy at the same time. There are moments here that are "folk", "r&b" and "bluegrass" but this cd should not be categorized because it's just full of feeling and should appeal to people who love all of those types of music. In essence, "Obadiah" transcends genres. I've already bought copies of this cd for several friends and can't understand why "Obadiah" is not the biggest selling album on the planet. Or why I'd never heard of it until recently. Thank you Frazey Ford. Please make a new album soon.

soooo much more than I expected
I'm a Be Good Tanyas fan and was bummed when they disbanded (?). Anyhow, saw Frazey Ford was playing locally, touring behind her just released solo project. Didn't know what to expect and damn, what fine show and mesmerizing bunch of new songs. This album builds slowly, patiently and gets better with every listen. Her interest in R&B shines on many tracks. Both the melodies and the very fine lyrics just keep pulling you in. Best tracks are Lost Together, Birds of Paradise, Hey Little Mama, but they really are all quite good. Ford defies easy categorization, even moreso than the BGT, but just buy this album. You won't regret it. Sometimes it reminded me of the creative fusion of Luscious Jackson, sometimes the moodiness of the cowboy Junkies, whatever, it's very good.

Frazey's sound
This is an incredible CD, different than what you might be used to. It certainly was for me, but I find it very captivating. It could be Frazey's voice or the bluesy quality of the recording, a sort of slow, relaxed setting that is quite nice. I find myself coming back for a listen again and again, and then, a smile when "Obadiah" appears on the shuffle mode. I had never heard of Frazey before this CD. I had heard of the Be Good Tanyas but had never really listened to them. This CD is such a wonderful contribution to my collection that I have to say thanks to Frazey and wish her well.

Frazey's first solo without the Be Good Tanyas ---a real winner
Frazey's first solo without the Be Good Tanyas ---a real winner! I can listen to this bluesy, heartfelt album over and over again. Very nuanced with heartache and loss, but also uplifting and soul-soothing.

Surprised.
Being a Dylan fan, I bought this CD for the Dylan cover (One more cup of coffee), and it is a great cover, but I was stunned by the rest of the songs. Totally unique and gorgeous, brilliant vocal stylings, excellent acoustics, lovely melodies. Unique and outstanding. Can't take it out of my CD player.

The Be Good Tanyas will be missed. This lp is one that can make you forget though. Excellent!!! I believe Frazey Ford is the female Dylan of this point in time.

Beautifully crafted personal songs.
Frazey is unique. Her songs are heartfelt and very personal. It is unusual in this machine souless generated class of music that seems to be popular today. She has a beautiful voice and real sense of musicality.

Frazey Ford
One More Cup of Coffee"(Bob Dylan)が良いです。"Firecracker","If You Gonna Go"も気に入ってます。

Sultry!
This was such a wonderful surprise!I am a big fan of The Be Good Tanya's and have enjoyed their live performances and was a bit anxious about Frazey Ford making an album all alone... Silly me!Her voice is like dark melting velvet that can make you cry in an instant, in one song, and then she's got you belting out and toe-tapping in the next...I LOVE THIS CD... buy it... it is an investment in happiness :)
