Sport-Brella Versa-Brella SPF 50+ Adjustable Umbrella with Universal Clamp

I work in a lab setting with very bright lights. I have cataracts & am unable to get the laser surgery just yet. This umbrella ‘saves the day’ by attaching to the top of the cubicle wall & flexibly moves to the best position to block the most overhead light.Before trying this solution, I tried wearing sunglasses, wearing a sun visor, and wearing a ball cap. Not only do none of them work as well as the umbrella, but by the end of the day I had a headache from wearing something all day that was meant for only a couple hours of use.This product is reasonably priced for the important job it does for me, is quick to attach & detach each day, and a snap to adjust once you practice a couple minutes with all the “joints” in the handle that are able to be moved. Excellent investment, would definitely purchase again if needed!

The minute you put this up you can feel the change in temp. It takes a bit to get used to all the adjustments but with two of them I can get full side coverage for two lounges in the desert. I’m impressed. My chairs are wrapped with a kind of plastic coil on the arms which makes them hard to stay put in the wind but I’m working on that. Otherwise they are very sturdy and hold up to normal to moderate breezes like a pro. No problems at all. The silver lining is totally protective. No more slathering on the sun screen. UPDATE: Since I first wrote my review I realized the clamp opens real wide and works better on the edge of my chair or patio table than on the arm. I also gently tighten it with a pair of pliers since my hands aren’t so strong. After awhile with the desert sand blowing around the adjustment buttons got tough to push. I sprayed a touch of silicone spray in them and they do great again. Don’t use oil or WD40. Only good silicone spray. It dries yet continues to lubricate so the sand won’t stick to it. If you use oil or WD40 the first time you take it to the beach the button problem will be worse from the sand sticking inside the cracks. Silicone is good for lubing your sliding door tracks, too, for the same reason. Just use a little, wipe off the excess and the glass door and screen slides without dirt sticking to it. It’s not slippery either.

If you've read the other reviews, then nothing will surprise you with this umbrella. The various points of articulation work pretty well, although some are stickier than others (and simply require some wiggling during adjustment). There is that clamp problem where there's a metal nut that can come out if you loosen the clamp almost all the way. The superglue fix others have described here is easy, but you have to do it BEFORE you lose the nut. Just make sure you don't accidentally glue your clamp into a static position.As for the umbrella as an umbrella, it has made the beach much more bearable. I originally got it because I'm pregnant and right now my skin is too sensitive to handle the sun exposure I would normally be fine with. I've taken this umbrella to the beach multiple times, and it's great. It clamps right to the back of my chair and is easily adjustable as the sun moves, or if you move your chair. I also clamped it to my deck railing to create some shade while my husband was grilling this summer, and that worked pretty well. It doesn't cover a huge area, but if you're in one spot, it'll do.Mild winds don't faze the umbrella. In moderate winds or with gusts, you need to be aware of wind direction so you don't accidentally create a sail out of your umbrella. As with any umbrella, it will catch in a stiff breeze. The Sport-Brella never threatened to break or invert, but the strongest beach winds did cause it to shift/slide from its clamped position. Basically, this thing isn't wind-proof, so don't expect it to be.I imagine that I will continue to use this at the beach in the future, since it does wonders for not getting too hot (or getting burnt after forgetting to reapply sunscreen, which I've done several times). I also like that the clamp is so versatile, since it can attach to other chairs, a stroller, or a deck railing. I can only imagine how useful it will be if I'm taking my impending kid somewhere in a stroller and there's strong sun or some rain. Being able to protect yourself without taking up your hands is clutch. Definitely glad I made this purchase.

It's so easy to set up and adjust, and it really does provide great shade. I love that it swivels 360 degrees, so I can always find the perfect position to block the sun. It's compact and comes with a nice carrying case, which makes it easy to take anywhere.

Great idea. Was using it to shade a Hummingbird feeder from direct sunlight. The mounting clamp failed within 2 weeks. I added new bolt and nut to make it hold tight. The 3 Position adjustment buttons seem flimsy and don't always engage at the points you want them. Irregular shaped umbrella surface is unique and very functional. I will "retrofit" the umbrella to operate in a more precise and reliable manner and will not order another one if and when the umbrella fabric itself fails.
