I would add that you can put a solution of cleaner and water into a spray bottle and spray and wipe the interior of the machine once the kettle is removed. Then use another spray bottle of regular soap and water to spray and wipe away traces of the solution from inside the machine.

Heat it in the pot just like you would making popcorn.
