The Makeup Wakeup: Revitalizing Your Look at Any Age

I'm too old to fiddle around...and hadn't worn makup in 20 years...
So when you want to learn something... you get an expert! Right off the bat the colors they choose and products they recommend, I liked!! I hadn't worn makeup in years, and when I started applying it the way they suggest, I really started getting compliments. The writing/editing could have been better, but if you pour over the main instructions, you can get the gist of it. It would also have been nice to have been tied to some videos (available only to book owners) - that would give actual application demos.Note, one of the other reviewers complained about the "superstar models" they used with heavy makeup - the authors do write about that IN THE BOOK - that you can go as light or as heavy as you want, you DON'T need to apply it to the depth they did on a couple of the models. In fact, the model pics show the entire range from the 'bare look' all the way through to the heavy look, it's up to you how far you want to go with it. The object is that the learning curve, and method are the same - it's just the color range, and depth of color that changes.I chose lighter colors for my selections - and applied them lightly - and I have the perfect look. In fact, the best comments I get are: "You've done something, you look much brighter and happier than normal!" I'd MUCH rather hear that than "I love your makeup"!

Good things and not so good things
If you want to learn new ideas about makeup and looking your best, this is a great book. It's true that your skin care and makeup needs change as you get older and it's important to adapt and work with that. However, I do disagree on many details. The makeup chapters have a lot of details that do not come off as "less is more." Some of the results look more like something I'd wear for a special event than something I'd wear for a natural look. And while the book seems to promote facelifts, there's not enough information about less invasive treatments. I would love to have seen more about things you can do at home, like microdermabrasion, peels, and dermaplaning. And it has pretty much nothing about basic skin care.Plus, I'm a curly girl. When curly hair is cared for properly, it can look beautiful. Yet this book is like so many- it says that you need to straighten your hair to look polished. WRONG!This book is worth the read and the makeup techniques are worth a try. But use your own judgment and see what works.

A must have for your library
This book is a true find. My daughter just graduated from College and I have devoted the past 22 years focusing on her. I felt it was time to start focusing on me now.I am a single parent and have a very busy career. I saw this book and thought I could use some help to look more attractive. This book gives clear and attainable instruction for a mature woman. It talks about all the challenges women my age deal with. It successfully illustrates how to apply the makeup so you can easily follow the process.I am someone who never bothered with eye makeup before but I've leaned how to apply eye makeup that highlights my features. The best part is it didn't require much more time. Also, I had no idea what products to use and this book gives suggested products to purchase so you know what works best giving options for all levels of income. It saves so much time having to shop around.I always preferred the natural look and this book talks about enhancing my features without looking too made up. In addition, it talks about options for women who have typical face aging challenges.Lois and Sandy put themselves out there and to me it shows that they are serious about educating women who need help. They are the experts and who better to learn from then experts in makeup.I would highly recommend this book. It's a must have book for my library as I embark on a new chapter in my life.Diana

Not Sure Yet
I'm almost 49 years old and have many of the challenges this book addresses. Have skimmed the work and read through the first two or three chapters. The before-and-after pics of beautiful mature women are great, and I love the advice to ordinary women not to aim for professional model beauty, created mostly by lighting and airbrushing and not by makeup. But the actual instructions here for makeup application aren't as clear and well-delineated as I'd hoped. For the relative notice, a definition of terms and drawn diagrams pointing out facial structures would help, especially for the eye section (for example, what is the 'crease?') The word "shadow" is also used to refer to more than one product or application process, it seems. And "you might need EIGHT products for eyebrows..." Wow! I don't use that many products for my whole face! The work is of course about makeup, but the models all have perfectly white teeth and great hair...an optimal starting canvas. Readers should be aware that, if they don't take care of those grooming issues, the makeup alone won't help them achieve their desired look.I've read Bobbi Brown's "Living Beauty," which I like; the makeup shown there is less heavy, in some cases. Also, some of the advice in these two books differs: for example, one insists on undereye corrector and concealer for mature women, and the other says to minimize it.Various opinions from experts can be baffling...I guess each woman must find what works for her (this can be expensive and time consuming). Will keep reading. If problems with makeup application are my biggest ones, things are good!

I loved this book
I love this book and thanks so much. Not only it arrived really quickly with the other books, I totally loved the fact that it was my age book and not young girls - Most fashion and make up and books, clothes, shoes, mostly is advertised for young girls. But how about us, as we go older and still want to feel young? This book made me feel, 'oh, okay, so I can do this, I can do that, and get some parts of my make up improve me and make me feel fresher'. Thanks a lot!

Good(ish)
Elizabeth Hurley recommended this so I thought I'd see what all the fuss is about. Good read and picked up a few tips here on make up - but my make up now takes three times as long to apply and I just don't have time. Tips aren't great if you're always in a rush like me

Great book
Really easy to follow step by step guide to make-up for older women. Need all the help I can get to fight Father Time so would thoroughly recommend to anyone needing a bit of a re-vamp or advice. Great book.
