Cast Magnesium Apple/Potato Peeler Corer by Spiralizer, Durable Heavy Duty Die Cast Magnesium Alloy Peelers

Never had one before and at first I was disappointed that it spiral cut the apple in addition to peeling and coring. I expected it to only core and peel! Shows what I know. The spiral cut is fine makes it easy to make pies with uniform slices inside. Amazed that core and peel function did not waste much apple at all. less than doing it by hand I would say. A little disconcerted by the various adjustments you can make - again never had one before. I just went ahead and used it on granny Smith apples and it worked great out of the box. Suction cup held firm to counter. I would say this little gadget exceeded my expectations in every way. Great inexpensive tool!

***Update: less than an hour after posting this review I was contacted by the company about the suction on the base. They immediately sent me another one and said that it shouldn't have the same issue (which I thought was barely significant to begin with). I haven't peeled 14 lbs of apples on this one, but my impression is that it won't come loose as easily -- but might gradually rotate if your heavy-handed like myself.When I buy something online I worry about the risk of being stuck with something I don't like, but you don't have to worry about that with this company. I changed my rating from 4 stars to 5 due to the incredible customer service.I was so excited to use this apple peeler (my first one!), and for the most part I was not disappointed. It's not very large and doesn't take up much counter space (which I have very little of), yet it can peel large apples. I peeled 14 lbs of various sized apples (Honeycrisp and golden delicious) yesterday and didn't have a problem with any of them, and I wasn't even picky about the shape of the apples. It took a few minutes to get the hang of using it - the instructions aren't very clear and don't include near enough visuals for those of us who would rather see it being assembled/used rather than reading words on a page. All parts feel very sturdy. I feel confident that it'll stand up to the test of time, although I can't testify to that as I've only had it a week. However, a problem I have with it is the suction on the base. It comes loose about every 4th apple. That is the ONLY reason I didn't give it 5 stars. It's a little inconvenient when you're on a roll and have to stop to re-position it. Other than that, it's awesome! It takes about 10 seconds (or less) to peel an apple - I feel like I'm cheating somehow. It may not be the way my grandma does it, but I think it's time someone in my family started the tradition. ;)

There are occasions when I'm peeling a lot of apples like for example when I'm making dried apples. There are other cases when I'm peeling a lot of potatoes for soup or for a party and I find that it works great on both the apples and the potatoes. Cuts the time way down and it's fun to use. So far I have not had much of an issue with it sticking to my countertop in fact I would say for the most part it has been very very good.

This peeler arrived without the crank-piece that you hold in your hand to rotate the apple through the peeler/corer. My 8 year old and my 4 year old were extremely excited to begin using this little gadget, as I had built it up as a surprise for them to open right out of the mailbox. I decided to attempt to use it without the handle. I attached it to the counter, attached an apple, and carefully turned the arm without the handle piece. While attaching the apple to the gadget, the suction piece immediately disengaged from the counter. I used a towel on the counter, thinking maybe the counter was moist from having just cleaned the counter, but again, the suction failed. I played and played with the suction with no luck. Still not wanting to let my girls down, I continued our attempt at making an apple crisp by allowing them to slowly turn the arm of the peeler while I held the peeler down onto the counter with my hands. The process with my 4 year old was impossible, as she couldn't make the arm turn without the benefit of the handle. My 8 year old could just barely manage. It took a long time to peel 10 apples, even with me and my 8 year old alternating who turned the arm of the peeler. At this point, I attempted to call the customer service number on the instructions, hoping for an indication from them that I had possibly received a faulty gadget (I really wanted to hear that I just had a random oddity). I calmly left a polite message, as it was a weekend afternoon and possibly not the company's business hours. At this point, we got back to our pile of apples. To my disbelief, the cutter tool had now stopped peeling the skin from the apple! We had only done a fairly small amount of apples! I adjusted and played with all the parts on the gadget, trying to see if something had gotten out of place, but nothing I did helped. The peeler tool was sitting right on the apple but without me applying pressure to the tool, it wouldn't peel! At this point, I ended up at the sink, hand-peeling the remainder of the apples, then putting them on the peeler simply to core and cut them. I was extremely irritated as, what should have taken us a matter of minutes, had now extended into over an hour and a half. My girls had completely lost interest and I was getting more and more upset, as I wanted to finish our dessert without wasting what we had already peeled.This product is junk. It has been a week since I left a message on the answering machine of the company and I've had no phone call back, though I had already decided that there wasn't much they could do to try to fix the problems this gadget has, other than going back to the drawing board. I was so shocked that so many people found this product to be worthy of 4 or 5 stars. When I looked at the 1 star reviews, most of them had problems with this tool after a couple of uses. I question the authenticity of the review that stated that this company went above and beyond to fix their 'random' broken gadget. That particular review had initially made me reluctant to leave a bad review...until the peeler stopped peeling. In my opinion, there's no way this peeler could last multiple seasons, even if it was able to work right out of the box. To add insult to injury, the rubber tip on the lever that works the suction cup fell off while I was putting this tool back into the box! I think I may have to spend more money on this product than what Amazon sells, as the 1 star reviews of the other items on Amazon similarly state that multiple uses ruined the peelers. I'm frustrated, as my apple tree is loaded and I need a peeler! I've seen several reviews hoping the Amazon peelers would compare to older Pampered Chef products they had owned previously, so maybe I'll try to find a seller. Save yourself the aggrevation: don't buy this product!

It's not perfect by any means. But for the price, it's worth the $ you pay. You will waste with potatoes, but apples work well.

I was thinking outside the box for gifts last year, and came across this apple peeler. I purchased it for someone that loves cooking and kitchen items, but more importantly loves making apple butter! They loved it!! It is made very well and the red is a beautiful color. Great gift idea!

Purchased this item to hopefully save me time in peeling and coring this year's apple harvest from my Grand Daughters apple tree. Worked great, seems to be a very robust unit.
