CAMELLIAS Field Peas, 16 OZ

These field peas taste just like homeThey don't sell them where we live so ordering them from Amazon has been a blessing. These are a Thanksgiving staple in our house.

I live in the Oregon and it's impossible to find field peas here. I like to enjoy the dish to accompany white fish and cole slaw. I tryed ordering two brands of field peas made in South Carolina (at much expense especially with shipping), but as many recipes from the southern part of the USA, the canned versions have entirely too much salt and especially pepper. So I make mine from scratch here and this product is exceptional, especially at the price. Highly recommend.

Fresh field peas are better, but for a dried version, these are great. After moving to the West Coast, I couldn't find these in the stores. I don't care for the canned versions I was able to find back east. Now I make my own field peas using these dried beans. I found great recipes online, but I mostly make these beans fairly plain using water and chicken stock. I use them in soups, pilafs, salads, etc.These beans have an earthy flavor. They beans don't go mushy with cooking, but they do soften well while maintaining an integral bean. There is a nice little pop of flavor as you bite into one.

Cooked these the other night in our Instant Pot (plug alert). Threw in some celery, bay leaves, Tony Chachere spice, my own chicken broth and boy, did they come out delicious ! Creamy, creamy, creamy. I then took some chicken I cooked and threw all of that on the stove and let it cook for an hour. WOW ! Camellia beans are the best I've ever found.

Arrived safely. Takes a bit longer to cook than the label says. Just cook like you would other dried beans/peas. Taste and texture is very much like Margaret Holmes canned field peas but you get to control the seasoning. A bit pricey but they aren't available in my area so I was glad to get them online. I'll order them again.

The bags, very small bags, were cut open and the contents poured out of the box, which had been torn open and foreclosed! Worse yet, there is a no return policy for these very expensive useless now beans. I'd make a reinstall joke if I weren't so mad!
