Sweet story of friendship
This is a wonderful book. It is not necessarily based on true story, however the event that took place surrounding the story: such as the occupation of France and the pudding gypsies in concentration camps. Those things actually did occur. It is a sweet story about friendship. I like how the main characters are both minorities. And minorities that don't typically get a lot of FaceTime in the media or things like that. They are gypsies and probably some form of autism. The setting in France it sounds absolutely beautiful. I recommend this for almost any age. For young girl audiences as a read-aloud

Wonderful book ... but watch out!
It's a wonderful, humane, evocative book ... but please note that it's NOT a new book from Sir Michael: it turns out to be a newly published American edition of the book called "Flamingo Boy" here in the UK. I wonder how many other people bought this, like me, not realising?
