Another good Astro City story this time focusing on Astro City's version of Wonder Woman. Since she's not really Wonder Woman, she can be a much more outspoken feminist icon than the original. While that normally wouldn't be of much interest to me, Busiek forms her into a well rounded and sympathetic character. She finds herself undermined and framed by an unknown enemy. To find out who, she needs the help of the Astro City version of Superman and Batman, but the women who've given her her powers think it's both bad form and a bad message for her to turn to men for help. The action isn't particularly impressive but its a thoughtful and well done story on gender issues that doesn't devolve into the usual liberal vs conservative arguments.Normally these books have lame extras but this one includes the Astro City Visitors Guide which is really cool, part tour of Astro City and part Astro City Superhero guide, its actually a very good add on.

A fascinating take on the Wonder Woman mythos featuring a strong, beautiful female protagonist who derives her power from the belief of a worldwide network of tough-minded psychic women. A great story that gets grim and hopeless without ever forgetting the fun, and that uses the bleakness to make Winged Victory's ultimate triumph feel like a true catharsis.

Astro City never fails me for entertainment. Kurt Busiek has a great imagination, a knack for story presentation and character development. Victory is no exception. It dives into the origin of Winged Victory and how she sees herself as a superhero.

One of the best series in comics.
Astro City is hands down one of the best series in US comics. If you like comics at all, you are going to love Astro City.

Inconsistent Art and Storyline
Between the reviews and the incredible cover by Alex Ross, had very high hopes for a new series that I could enjoy and add to the collection. Sadly disappointed...the storyline was wordy and got more than a little "preachy", and, the art was inconsistent and nowhere near the cover quality.

The weakest Astro City to date
which still makes it a solid three stars. The story about winged victory just does not hit the right buttons. As an Astro City regular, we know about her controversial status among the cities heroes, but she has been a hero for almost 20 years, so the old "villain frames hero- hero sets out to clear his name-city turns against its own savior" seems forced and by Busieks standards weak.SPOILER ALERTthe explanation of Winged Victorys powers is utterly shameful, it would have better been kept in the dark. the worlds top women (is Hillary among them? Beyonce?) share some sort of psychic connection and in true guardians of oa style have a council meeting of minds turning a teenager into a greek.style warrior godess with angel wings.I mean seriously? can it get more sappy with the "women are awesome" stuff? so who is in that council? just any women who achieved something? how about bad women with power? powerful but stupid women?it makes no sense. why not go the old fashioned way, some ancient artifact, vague female-gaia-spirit of the planet? I like the vagueness in origins most heros have in AC, this is part of what makes it enjoyable, to fill the gaps with imagination.I liked seeing the Confessor back, sadly he is a bit underused, the Choirboys were a good addition, Winged Victorys new colleagues as well. The art is a bit inconsistent, there are a lot of panels were the faces look totally different than just one panel before, other than that Andersons work is solid. But well, it does not save the overall weak story line and the visitors guide at the end is 80% copypasta of the old Herocopia Website and the Astro City Rocket homepage.
