How does this compare to a sentricon system?

Terminix still uses the sentricon system. Just spoke to the representative and he tried to sale me sentricon systems.

Why are there 10 bait stations, but only 6 bait cartridges?

You only use the bait cartridge when termites are inside the monitors. Otherwise you waste the bait. I serviced these professional for years. You'll save a lot of money by not wasting bait when there is no termite activity. Weather ruins the bait and so do ants. Ant bait is way cheaper than the trelona termite bait.

My bait stations are always wet and the wood has turned black. Do they still work?

Need to move them to a location where they don't get wet. Inside the drip line of the roof.

Can this be used as a preventive measure? How long does the bait stay effective underground?

You don't put the bait inside the stations until there are termites inside the stations. System monitors for them. Once there are termites inside the stations you put the bait inside. So yes it prevents them before they get inside your house.
