Worth having a key for added security
Just knowing I can use the key to override the combination gives me peace of mind. I read about ways to bypass some locks with magnets, so having a key as backup is helpful. The safe arrived well-packaged, with no dents or scratches, which was a relief. Though quite heavy to move into place, the sturdy build and simple operation make it a reliable choice for keeping valuables safe at home or even during travel.

Perfect for what we need
Why did you pick this product vs others?: the reviews that I read all said it was the best in my price range for home security Security: I like that the key overrides the combination. I had read that there are ways to defeat the combinationlock with a magnet but if that is true, the key will prevent that. Design: In spite of some reviews, my safe came p[ackaged secury with no dents or scratches. It was heavy to put in position, but the quality and ease of use is impressive. Value for money: I had a cheaper safe and thought it was secure. After my home was broken into I found out how easy it was to use a crowbar ( which the thieves found in my garage) and pry the side with the bolts out and the door [popped open. Unless I am missing something here, this is not going to happen with this safe. Works well: Simple to understand programming the combination. Thickness: As I said, this thing is heavy and if you hit it on the side, it sounds solid. I don't usually write reviews but in this case I wanted others to know what a great product this is. I am very happy with this purchase and recommend this safe very highly. No negatives to report.

Great little home safe, but know the limitations
This is based on just initial impressions as we received this today. It's well built, despite the locking mechanism being plastic. It's heavy and you will need two people or an appliance truck to move it to the room you want to store it in. It slides easily on carpet, so if you plan to place it in a carpeted area, just be aware of that (either it needs to be concealed or bolted to the floor if you're willing to damage your carpet and okay with the risk of water intrusion). Ours arrived locked with the keys inside. The manual has the master code so just put batteries in the battery box and it will unlock. Note the key is NOT an override lock; it only locks the latch mechanism and prevents the keypad from working. You will need the master code and the key in the unlocked position to open the safe. The safe can store a primary user code and a secondary code (two in total). It has LED lights that can illuminate the interior of the safe and can be programmed to be on or off through the keypad. It comes with a drawer shelf that lifts from the top with a decent space to store stuff inside. You can buy an additional shelf on Amazon if you want it. It comes with a desiccant pack that you should NOT throw away unless you plan to use a larger one. I bought some reusable 100 gm packs on Amazon that are microwavable. Do not store stuff in this safe without desiccant to control the humidity or your stuff may get warped, damaged, or rust. Overall, a great little safe for the house but I suspect it won't be hard for a crook to pry open or slide it away if they have the time. We still plan to keep our very valuable stuff in the bank locker, but this is a nice add for a few things that we keep in the house. Know the limitations before you buy. If you need ultimate home security, then look for a solid steel safe that's >200lbs; but it'll cost you an arm and a leg! We are sticking with the bank.

key pad batteries can be replaced outside the safe good sturdy nice size
nice sturdy safe. nice size The key lock is not separate; it is added security. You still need the keypad to open. The batteries for the keypad are in a battery slot outside, easy to access and change batteries; this is great. it says you can bolt down the safe. This is really malarkey. There are some lag bolt screws included, but no preset place to drill; you drill blindly through safewalls, and it disables any waterproofing of the safe. This is terrible and will most likely not be implemented by anyone. It is a marketing gimmick only to say you can bolt down the safe.

The handle is SUPPOSED to be somewhat flimsy!!
Growing up my dad had a Sentry safe. Now I understand why, this safe while it is a budget safe easily is worth the money. So first thing to address is the design. People have complained the handle feels cheap. That is only half of the story, itโs SUPPOSED TO BE!!! If you look at the photo I put the manual states this. Reason being if someone tries to force there way inside the safe will not allow it. This is exactly what you want in a deterrent! Anything to slow down a thief including the safe purposefully destroying itself. As long as you remain clam and patient the safe will open. You just have to remember that IF you man handle it, the safe WILL punish you. As it believes youโre a thief, I brought this for my Tiffany Jewelry and large sums of cash handling. And it is worth the investment I am actually glad people complained because $286 for the amount of features you get is a steal. The lock isnโt what you think! This safe is two factor authentication!! If I turn the lock to โlockedโ the safe WILL NOT OPEN even if you have the code. And if โunlockedโ all you need is the code. The keys alone will not open it. This is exactly what you want in a safe. Now itโs unpickable and much harder to open. All that being said a safe is a safe it can be forced open. However with this particular model I sure as hell wouldnโt want to be the thief trying. Let me tel you this safe would suck to force open. With bolts are huge and the door is so thick I couldnโt imagine it taking anything less then 2-3 hours to force your way into. If your debating on buying think about it as one, an investment and two something built to last. The inside lock box is somewhat cheap however when itโs locked it will NOT come out of the safe. So I would have to use a hammer to beat it out after spending hours trying to force it open as a thief. 100% worth every penny I just canโt believe it was only the price it was. Feels illegal for the security that you get. If your safe arrives damaged just return and get a new one. Mine came in fine. One small dent but itโs where you would drill for mounting so it doesnโt bother me. The 90LBs too means itโs hard to rob I couldnโt see anyone picking it up and walking away quickly or easily. So with that here is my final piece of advice- remember to be patient and go slow the safe is designed to work against you if you panic and try to force your way in. If the handle doesnt turn be patient. DO NOT TRY TO FORCE IT. The safe will punish you my mechanically disengaging the handle you will hear a click and it will disengage the bolts. This is EXACTLY what itโs SUPPOSED to do. I almost did this to myself when the key wasnโt opening the safe because I failed to read the manual. Donโt let this happen to you. Be patient read the manual and use your factory code always. Never try to force this safe open it will lock you out indefinitely and force you to either wait or get a lock smith. This safe is designed to take a few minutes to open. This also massively increases security. Itโs up to you and your needs when it comes to security. But I made the mistake of buying a Vevor safe that was about trash the door was crooked and the safe had rust and was easily lighter. While you can get larger cheap safes for the same if not less money. There is something to be said about quality and spending damn good money on security. I do not think Sentry is the end all be all. Weโve all seen those YouTube videos were a guy opens one up in 60 seconds when itโs a simple lock box. But with this modelโs features Iโd love to see someone try to open it without the code.

very heavy and well made
well this is a heavyweight. it's like 95 lb or so. very well made. I should have planned better because I paid extra for the delivery man to put it where I wanted it. however getting it out of the box with the heavy duty box & styrofoam and keep it where it was was a chore. it took me an hour to get the box cut off the safe. Thank God for box cutters. so I suggest if you live alone don't buy one. you need two people to get that box off and get it out of that box. however I figured it out. Now to get it bolted to the floor. it's a whole other job. ๐ค

Cheaply made and cheaper at Costco.
I bought this safe because I wanted a fireproof safe with a digital keypad and I regret picking this "safe" and buying it from Amazon. This "safe" is really just a fire resistant box, and its cheaper at Costco ($250 at my local Costco). If you're set on buying this model do yourself a favor and check out Costco first, but I wouldn't if I were you. The biggest problem is the hinge on this "safe" is exposed to the outside of the safe which isn't always a bad thing, in fact it's not uncommon. But the hinge is only spot welded on, again not always a bad thing if there were locking bolts on the hinge side of the safe but this "safe" has none only cheap plastic fingers that protrude off the inside of the door. I honestly feel I could break into this safe in under 5 minutes with only a hammer and a pry bar. The locking mechanism is also a problem. After you enter the correct code it's really slow to unlock and allow you to turn the handle but if the turn it to soon or to late the have to enter the code again, there's only a small window to turn the handle at the right time and there's nothing that indicates when that is. Lastly the metal is really thin. I knew this when I ordered it but the way I intended to install it in my house this wouldn't have been a problem as there was going to be wood all around except in front of the door which I know doesn't offer much protection from break in but it would slow someone down and possibly make it not worth the effort to break into it. The metal is so thin that when the fireproofing material is injected during the manufacturing the sides, top, and bottom all bowed out which to me is really crappy manufacturing. I hope I never test out its ability to protect my valuables from a fire/flood but my confidence isn't very high. Thought about returning it but at $70 shipping I wanted to think about it/find something different but I thought about it for to long a missed my return window. You get what you pay for when it comes to safes but at $360 this safe is way over priced.

Worth the Wait and Weight!
TL;DR: Finally decided to invest in a home safe, and this SentrySafe exceeded my expectations. Despite a minor dent on arrival, it's a reliable and secure choice. If you're anything like me, you've debated getting a home safe for ages. I've done the research, eyeballed them in stores, and scrutinized the prices repeatedly. It's a back-and-forth dance that lasts way too long. But I've finally taken the plunge with this SentrySafe, and I couldn't be happier. Let's address the elephant in the room first - the safe arrived with a nasty dent (see picture). It's a bummer, but it doesn't affect the safe's core function. Plus, it doesn't impact the fire and water rating. Amazon's customer service offered replacements, refunds, or a discount, but I opted to keep it. Now, onto the fun part! Grab four AAA batteries and keep your documents far away from the safe - don't lock them inside! Trust me; it's a headache you don't want to deal with. Follow the owner's manual, and you'll have this baby up and running in no time. My safe came with lag bolts for floor mounting, but keep in mind, that voids the water-resistant warranty. I'm not too concerned since I don't live in a flood-prone area. Inside, you'll find a lockbox that I absolutely adore. It helps keep things organized, and I've even ordered another one. The LED lights that illuminate the interior are fantastic, and you can program them to stay on for your preferred duration. The keypad is user-friendly, with an audible beep for each key press (you can turn it off). The door opens and locks smoothly, and there are small bins inside the door, key hooks, and ample space for documents. In conclusion, this SentrySafe was well worth the wait. It's heavy, secure, and a solid investment for safeguarding your valuables. Don't hesitate; just go for it. It's a small price to pay for peace of mind. ๐ก๐๐ฐ

No regrets!
Works as itโs supposed to. The description says you need four AA batteries but you actually need 4 AAA batteries. So I bought the wrong ones unnecessarily, which was definitely annoying. Though product is of good quality and seems to be reliable.

Solid, sturdy safe with nice features
This safe is well built and easy to use. I like that the battery compartment is on the outside. Has a lockable tray inside for holding documents or other small items -- which you can change the position of or remove altogether! Waterproof/air proof (as long as you don't drill into it to mount it), fire resistant. Has a light inside as well. Great safe!
