Abe Lincoln's Hat (Step into Reading) Paperback – Picture Book, April 12, 1994

Since my Kindergartener (age five-and-a-half) had completed the Step 2 books in the Step Into Reading series of books, I decided to go ahead and purchase the Step 3 books. I was a bit hesitant because I noticed there is quite a big leap between the Step 2 and Step 3 books, especially in terms of vocabulary and sentence structure. The vocabulary is more advanced with higher order words, and the sentences are longer. I was also concerned that my daughter might not like the topics which seemed to be more 'academic' with history-based stories. My worries were unfounded. She loves the books and is reading them with very little help from me.These books are excellent for building children's reading skills as well as increasing their confidence. Once you've completed the Step 1 and Step 2 books (I would advise proceeding level by level), the Step 3 books are not as daunting as they might first appear. In "Abe Lincoln's Hat", young readers are introduced to our 16th President. There is a lot of background information provided which makes for interesting reading, and it is pitched appropriately for young readers so as not to overwhelm them. The fact that Abe used his tall black hat to keep papers in is an interesting anecdote that had my little one giggling.I can't recommend these books highly enough - they are great for building reading skills, and also educational. This book is a great introduction to history, and I also came up with a series of short comprehension questions based on the story in this book so as to hone my daughter's comprehension skills (e.g. "Where did Abe live?", "What did Abe do with his hat?", "Describe the kind of person Abe was?").

The book arrived quickly and was on excellent condition. My students loved the story and I paired it with a Lincoln hat from Amazon.

My husband and I visited New Salem Village in Illinois and purchased a Lincoln top hat for our 8 year old grandson. I remembered my children having a book about Mr. Lincoln's Hat and thought it would make a perfect purchase to go with the hat. I found it on Amazon and it was a big hit! The book was just the right level for him and of course, he had to wear the hat while reading. He took both to show and tell and the whole class got to enjoy both. The Step into Reading company writes interesting, fun and challenging books for young readers. I am looking to them for one of his Christmas gifts.

Perfect way to learn about Abe Lincoln for kindergarteners. Kept their attention well.

My 9 year old grandson really liked this book. He is reading it again. It is a fun book, nice illustrations, and learning new facts too.

Great book for K-1st grade on President's day. This mini biography focuses on how he kept his notes in his hat. The book does not mention details on the civil war and does it cover his death. This is because the book is for little ones. Older children should of course cover more detail of those events.

Good my eight year old likes it it makes it easy to learn history

Im an avid lincoln reseaercher so even a child's picture book was interesting to me along with the great illustrations to inspire.If you purchase for a child best to sit with child to help explain the times.
