Peaky Blinders

This is a six part BBC Series about a small time gang that wants to go big. It is set in England right after the end of WWI where all the soldiers that have returned are changed in one way or another. Some have recurring nightmares of what had happened and some have given up on faith and man in general. I got this production because of one actor in particular and that is Cillian Murphy who has never disappointed in his performance in whatever role he plays. The story is between two antagonists. There is Thomas Shelby who has taken over the leadership of the Peaky Blinders which is a gang heavy in numbers and off track betting and is violent. When asked how much he pays for his suits, he replies that he never pays for them because "they" know better. Unfortunately some of his gang members knock off a warehouse and steal 25 machines guns. London isn't concerned about the number of weapons but to whom they will be sold (IRA or Communist factions) so they send in one Inspector Campbell from Belfast who has dealt with the IRA on behalf of the Crown successfully. Inspector Campbell and Thomas Shelby are the two main players in this game. As Inspector Campbell tells Thomas Shelby, "We are identical except opposite - like looking into a mirror." There is some violence and adult language but all very well done. Who wines? Does anybody win? Watch it. It is worth it. Every minute of it.

Good news and bad news about Peaky Blinders...The good news- From the get-go Cillian Murphy, violence, panache, and the Irish in Birmingham are all quite engaging. Throw in the opening strains of The White Stripes. "I think i smell a rat", and i am IN LOVE!Excellent, gripping show with moments of poignant tenderness in the grit. Clever, breath-taking at times with an amazing cast.I just finished season 2 of Penny Dreadful where Helen McCrory plays a very hateable satanic witch. In Peaky Blinders she is Aunt Polly, the glue that holds our lil crime family together- cheeky, brazen and tough -as -nails but sentimental all the same.Paul Anderson plays the oldest brother, Arthur.I remembered him from Sherlock Holmes, Game of Shadows , something of a villianous sniper.Here he is also Amazing! Tough , funny, sad. Especially an end of season scene with Tom Waite's " Time" playing in background.Yes, they have gotten in my head!Of course some Nick Cave and Cillian, of the impossibly blue eyes makes for some entrancing television.And theres lots more blood-racingly good music with tons of Jack White (probably who id want to be if i were anyone of the opposite sex).Annabelle Wallis is radiant and lovely as the barmaid with some dangerous secrets and a heart breaking singing voice .The bad news...now i have to wait for season 2 to be released on dvd in the U.S.But now there's Tom Hardy to look forward to.

It has become my favorite show that I will be forever addicted to. Cillian Murphy is brilliant as well as every single actor in the show. The music is suppose to be modern, its suppose to connect to the viewers while dealing with the 1919 year storyline, and I love it for that. I love each song included, with Jack White, PJ Harvey, and of course Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, (Johnny Cash season 2), amongst many others. I love the writing from Steven Knight, I love the reationships, and the cinematography.THE DVD disc itself HOWEVER:1. It is very grainy. While watching it I can see it has noticable lines as well.2. At least on disc 2, I saw it flash for a second to black three times (no, not from the shows effects).The DVD version was not taken care of nicely, for this conversion to the US region 1 dvd, at least for my dvd. It looks better on Netflix unfortunately.I will say that if you are to buy it at least maybe buy it in the Blu-ray version, perhaps it will serve to be better quality, hopefully.

The show is phenomenal, no question about it. Regarding the product itself, I only got it today (after purchasing it back in December 2021, and almost a month after the expected delivery date), but it arrived in excellent condition and very well packaged. Just a heads up, the discs are indeed region free. I gave it a shot even having no idea if they would work here in my country (region A), but they play perfectly. So if you're in doubt, these individual editions (not the box sets or special editions - those are all region B) work just fine in every blu-ray player.

Love the characters and set production - more female leads please.

This a great show. My husband and I have really enjoyed it. It may be a bit rough in times (though, it is a show about a gang after all, so a bit of violence and language is expected), but it does a good job of not having gratuitous violence. The acting is fantastic and the storyline really engrossing! I ordered this for my husband and it showed up quickly and with no troubles.
