About the Actor Journey is an American rock band formed in 1973 in San Francisco by former members of Santana and Frumious Bandersnatch. The band has gone through several phases; its strongest commercial success occurred between 1978 and 1987, after which it temporarily disbanded. During that period, the band released a series of hit songs, including 1981's "Don't Stop Believin'", which became in 2009 the top-selling catalog track in iTunes history. Its parent studio album, Escape, the band's eighth and most successful, reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and yielded another of their most popular singles, "Open Arms". Its 1983 follow-up, Frontiers, was almost as successful in the United States, reaching No. 2 and spawning several successful singles; it broadened the band's appeal in the United Kingdom, where it reached No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart. Journey enjoyed a successful reunion in the mid-1990s, and later regrouped with a series of lead singers. Sales have resulted in two gold albums, eight multi-platinum albums, and one diamond album (including seven consecutive multi-platinum albums between 1978 and 1987). They have had eighteen Top 40 singles in the US, six of which reached the Top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and two of which reached No. 1 on other Billboard charts, and a No. 6 hit on the UK Singles Chart in "Don't Stop Believin'". Originally a progressive rock band, Journey was described by Allmusic as having cemented a reputation as "one of America's most beloved (and sometimes hated) commercial rock/pop bands" by 1978, when they redefined their sound by embracing traditional pop arrangements on their fourth album, Infinity. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Journey has sold 47 million albums in the US, making them the 28th best selling band. Their worldwide sales have reached over 80 million albums. A 2005 USA Today opinion poll named Journey the fifth best American rock band in history. Their songs have become arena rock staples and are still played on rock radio stations across the world. Journey... Amazing rock legends!
Now I am no music critique, however, I do love and appreciate good music, particularly rock n' roll. I was born in the 70's, I grew up with very young parents listening to all of the best.... Journey was no exception.I am now married to a slightly older man that will not listen nor watch music unless it is a) classic or b) live. This DVD was his Xmas gift. We watched it together and just loved it!Admittedly, this DVD is really a story about Arnel and his rise to fame by being discovered on the internet during a search for a new Journey lead singer.Truthfully, I am not remotely close to being a fan of bands that split, divide, lose, gain members here and there, ESPECIALLY the lead singer! And in Journey's case how could you even consider replacing/substituting the undisputed, irreplaceable voice, talent and presence of Steve Perry?Well, as they say...once in a lifetime someone special comes along.....Arnel is sweet, naive, modest, humble, but his talent is as big as the universe! If you close your eyes you may never tell the difference between him and Steve Perry or Steve Augeri for that matter. The DVD is very well produced and filmed with the majority of footage taken with Arnel and band members (even some very quick shots of Steve Perry) of Journey - which by the way, they are ALL still awesome! Time spent with Arnel, his family and his home country is heartwarming and enlightening.Although, personally, I would have liked to hear more vocals by Arnel in general and more complete songs sung by him. There is plenty of back stage footage and prep, which is fun to watch. Lots of interview and studio footage with the various band members. Arnel is amazing, his story is captivating, the Band members are fabulous after all these years and this DVD is an excellent addition to any rock'n'rollers collection.Loved the DVD! I feel it is a part of the Band Journeys experience, however, deep down I regrettably feel the band died when Steve Perry left - never the music - just the band, and any attempt at reincarnation is just an illusion and wishful thinking! But!In fairness to the documentary, which is ultimately, about Arnel and his journey with Journey, we thoroughly enjoyed it and we're not disappointed with it whatsoever.....we were only slightly left with a touch of melancholy at the loss of such an incredible era of music!

I'm a believer!
I was in high school in SoCal in Journey's heyday, the late 70s/early 80s. I saw them in concert many times and I LOVED Journey. Steve Perry. Every girl loved Steve Perry, including me. I wasn't interested in Journey without Steve Perry until this movie. I had no idea there was a singer for 5 years between Steve and Arnel! Yes, I heard Arnel's story, but I didn't care. Now, I'm a believer! What I loved most about this film was watching the genuine, huge smiles on the faces of Neil, Ross, et al, as they played on stage and watched/listened to Arnel singing Journey's songs with them. It was pure joy and, I think, amazement that the band found someone good enough to fill Steve Perry's shoes.Arnel injected a big shot of adrenaline & energy into Journey. Arnel is more than a voice. He is a true front man for a world-class band. Arnel on stage reminds me of David Lee Roth in his prime fronting Van Halen. And Arnel's energy! He runs around, engages the crowd completely. It's incredible to watch. But, he does get winded and starts losing air at times, and that's when he points the microphone at the crowd, so he can catch his breath. The only thing that could be a problem is if Arnel doesn't learn to protect his voice. He wasn't doing a good job with that during this film. He's already getting steroid shots in his vocal chords, taking sleeping pills (!) and antibiotics (who is prescribing this stuff??). Do we need a list of singers done in by prescription drugs? Elvis, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston...On a high note: don't miss "City of Hope" during the credits. You'll hear the whole song and see Journey recording it while the credits roll. It's an awesome song and it's not Steve Perry's, it's Arnel's. That shows me that Journey is making new music that Journey fans are going to love. It's Journey 3.0! I'm definitely getting tickets to the next show near me!

You'll cry - if you have a soul; it's just that good
I saw this twice years ago and always wanted to see it again. Crazy that I had to buy this from the UK. Anyway, it's one of the greatest "Cinderella stories" ever. I literally cry every time I watch this; going from singing at funerals to buy bread to making millions while enjoying your childhood dream of being the lead singer for freaking Journey!! This is one of the greatest bands in history; very based members.

... story of how they found Arnel Pineda it was good to see the documentary following his transmission from singer ...
Having been a Journey fan since the 1970's and hearing the story of how they found Arnel Pineda it was good to see the documentary following his transmission from singer in a local covers band to the big time. The fact that he appears to have remained humble through his experiences is to his credit and having seen this line up twice it is interesting to see how the other band members took him under their wing and offered their incredible expertise to help his initiation into the band. Nice to see the good guys get the breaks!

Awesome and moving story
Not many bands can replace their lead singer and still sound as good as ever, Journey have done that, this is the very moving story of an unknown singer from a poor background getting his chance at the big time thanks to a you tube video, get this and the Live in Manilla concert on blu-ray and your Journey will be complete.
