The oil in most differentials is never changed.
Diff. oil does need to be changed, old thickened diff oil/grease will use more fuel to turn the thousands of times it spins for each mile driven. Changing your old diff. grease helps to dump all the old metal grindings out, and putting in fresh easier turning synthetic diff. oil makes it all work better and cooler too. Differentials either front or rear driven are very expensive, help them last a lifetime, change the grease.Use synthetic grease, you will get better gas mileage, and it lubes gears better too.
