The sol escape bivvy is nothing less than a revolution in backcountry shelters. The complaint with most ultra-light emergency shelters is the same: condensation builds up inside as you get warm, leaving your clothes soaking wet. With the escape bivvy, condensation is no longer an issue, and you never again have to choose between staying dry and staying warm. The proprietary fabric lets moisture escape at the same time that it keeps rain, snow, and wind on the outside - all while reflecting your body heat back to you. Waterproof seams plus a drawstring hood closure and side zip mean you can seal out the elements entirely or use the bivvy like a traditional sleeping bag. The low-visibility Old Green color with repeating black logos is ideal for those times when survival means you don't want to be seen.

Breathable?!?
Spent a dry night (at least it was dry outside) out and it was cool but not cold, very light breeze and I woke up SOAKED to the skin. I was wearing 100% cotton long johns and a long sleeve T-Shirt (also 100% cotton). I'd left the top fairly loose as I knew it'd need to 'breath', so I didn't duct tape myself in, but it was like sleeping in cling film/plastic wrap. I got up freezing and soaked, had to towel myself dry, chance and slept the rest of the night wrapped in a Jungle Blanket - toasty warm and woke up bone dry. Now left with a very expensive bin liner. I fell into the trap of 'You get what you pay for' - don't do the same!

Here is the Optimal Case for this Product
My intention when purchasing this was to see just how much serious good use one could get out of something meant for emergencies. So I intentionally gave it a good chance to prove itself, but I also didn't baby it, half-expecting it to give out on me early into my adventures. And yet...it lives on after three years and at least 40 uses! I have slept in a lava field in a downpour, on forest floor debris, rocky beaches, caves, a cement military structure hanging off the Rock of Gibraltar, and many other occasions where there was nothing between it and the elements. No tears, no breaks in the zipper. I'm impressed. This guy has survived outdoors longer than you'd expect!

CUMPLE

Used it on a 38 degree night, the top ...
Used it on a 38 degree night, the top half of my body stayed warm but since I used it in a hammock my back froze! There was no moisture problem even though I closed it up all the way and slept with my head inside. I only wore a wool t-shirt, a very thin long sleeved poly shirt, a down vest, very thin poly long johns and thin poly pants. This bag is definitely a keeper! Just have to pack a thicker pad for the hammock though...

Sleeping bag/Emergency Blanket Hybrid!
I purchased two of the Escape Bivvy's by SOL for my bug out bag. They arrived on time and were exactly what was advertised. I am 5'8" and 170 pounds and fit inside without any issues. The material appears to be of good quality and I suspect can be used more than once. They also arrived in a small carry case that keeps things small perfect for a bug out bag. Rated 4 out of 5 only because I have not yet field tested the item.

Not good for camping but good for emergency purposes
This bag is good when you need something for a medical emergency but if you plan on using it for camping or hiking don't bother. This bivy does not breath at all and very small across. Used it one night for camping it was - 4c and woke up the next morning soaked.
