IRWIN Tools STRAIT-LINE Large-Capacity Chalk Reel (2031311)

I had used one of these on a roofing crew many years ago, doing very large roofs. Now I do mostly residential stuff, but came across a roof job that had a 90 foot run, so I bought this. I like it for it's capacity and 200-plus foot length. We were getting 7-10 lines before re-chalking. You do need a guy in the middle, the line is heavy and will sag at length. But it is the tool to have on a roof like that.I gave it 4 stars because it spits out chalk like crazy when you unreel it,(I use orange chalk, so what a mess), and don't get it near moisture. You will either- not be able to reel it in, or- never be able to unreel it again until you take it apart. Which I had to do, and can waste a lot of chalk and be a real mess in the shop. But hey, sometimes you get weather, right.

These are the best , if you are setting block or foundation work. You can't go wrong with this heavy duty chaulk line.

This is a big ol' thing. Nothing you can put in your tool pouch. The string is heavy duty compared to smaller ones. It is big and takes a lot of chalk to fill it up. Make sure you have enough. If you use it a lot you are going to have to buy chalk in the gallon containers. It seems to be pretty tough and well made.

they work well new but do brake down after use. the string will brake and the gears strip. new great old not so good

Item is perfect length for projects that need just a little bit longer line. It does take a ton of chalk to fill this unit though so be prepared to have a lot of chalk on hand to fill this unit.

I bought this thing for laying-out lines on parking lots. From day one, the line is very difficult to pull, and it jammed twice. I have to empty all of the chalk , take it apart, and and manually rewind the string to make it work. This is a big disappointment.

did not hold up under commercial applications. The gears don't last very long

This is the third one that we have bought for our business. We use them every day and they are awesome.
