If you are infantry you need this book
I have used this book, illustrations, and SOPs to help teach soldiers small unit tactics in my job. I think the US Army should look to this book as an example on how to write their works on small unit tactics and field manuals. The illustrations are great, the wording is simple and concise, and the most powerful thing about this book is the author writes SOPs for contingencies that happen often enough that someone needed to write them down, and Matthew did that. The best part of this is that these tidbits of good SOPs for contingencies gives you a good base of knowledge to then war game other contingencies that can happen and come up with solutions for them. Like that experience you get where you learn some basic techniques is something like Origami and then can use those smaller techniques to build better, more complex work. This is something I have not experienced, even when going to supposedly prestigious small unit schools or training as an infantryman in my current unit and the fact this book can have me thinking tactically like that shows you how powerful it really is.During a force on force training event my platoon crossed a linear danger area and the opfor drove a technical vehicle between our crossing elements. This is a common tactic used to allow enemy to shoot into friendly elements while making friendly fire a factor that prevents friendlies from engaging enemy. Luke's book discussed the way to deal with this is to tell your forward elements to run out of the line of fire (like 90 degrees 100 meters) so the rear elements can defeat the enemy without friendly fire. We won this engagement, and had I not briefed this contingency to my soldiers (based on Luke mentioning it in this book) that engagement would have turned out differently. So idk how to give a better glowing review asides that I did the things the book said in "real life" (a field training exercise with MILES), and the techniques worked.Honestly this book highlights a need for the Army and the military in general to write out distinct SOPs that worked in the past based on different situations. As time goes on basic information like "contingencies in case your security elements in an ambush don't have radios" gets lost to time and unfortunately many of the training books like the Ranger Handbook and ATP 3-21.8 are too vague and many times leave more questions than answers. I look forward to Luke making more books and if any big wigs in the Army are looking at this take note, this is a field manual done right.

A better Ranger Handbook? Ya I said it....
Highly recommend for any soldier, marine, etc. No other type of "handbook" covers this type of material and communicates it so clearly in both words and graphical representation. This is not only useful to new soldiers but veterans alike. It should be a go to for hip pocket training.

First few pages are a misprint, but still a good resource.
Exactly as the title says. only problem is the first five or so pages are printed upside down and backwards but it's a not really a big deal.

Excellent Resource
Military manuals like the ranger handbook assume a baseline of understanding when it comes to terms, concepts and principles that are trained in those pipelines. This book establishes those baselines in the first few pages. That, combined with the very clear explanations and visuals make this an excellent resource for anyone seeking a working understanding of small unit tactics.

Super comprehensive guide that's so much better than the Ranger Handbook!
A comprehensive guide with pictures! This book is a great guide to small unit tactics. When we were taught how to do tactics, we would always say, "doing the basics right every time is what makes us 'special.'" It's a great guide for any infantryman, SOF Soldier or aspiring SOF candidate. I highly recommend this book to anyone trying to learn the basis of how to conduct infantry operations. Very good

Clear, concise, easy to understand
A comprehensive guide to the subject which covers the same ground as many regulation handbooks and official tomes, but is MUCH easier to read and has no waffle. It is therefore much more useful...
