Great shear
Why did you pick this product vs others?:Excellent shear. Perfect for sheet metal. I was able to cut 1/8" with it no problem. But you need to make sure you have it mounted well. The description says it will cut 3/16". I believe it would but didn't have any to test. Great shop tool to have.

It totally works on appropriate material.
Heavy. That's good. I have been cutting up old Disson handsaw blades that are somewhat hardened. This cutter cuts them cleanly without much distortion. In the past I've used everything from an angle grinder, to a band saw, to heavy-duty snips and I've hated the cuts from all of these tools. This thing cuts really well and with minimal effort. And... the best thing... it's quiet. You don't have to plug it in. You don't need hearing protection or even a dust mask.In my experience it doesn't cut really thin flashing material all that, but I could probably adjust the cutter heads to be a bit tighter. The thin stuff has a tendency to bend and get wedged between the block and the cutter head.Overall, I love this thing. It was a great purchase and it was crazy-inexpensive... with shipping!

Excellent Value for the Money - But check for any cracks before keeping
Shears are pretty simple tools, nonetheless this one is executed well. Assembly takes about five minutes (just several bolts to make the handle) and that's about it.Tips:-like with all big cast iron tools, these ship with bolts not super tightened etc. to prevent cracking. So make sure the bolts are tight, it will help keep the cuts straight when using on thicker materiale.-Make sure to use the hold-down part (the black thing that holds the metal flat) - it will help keep the metal where it needs to be, and not allow it to "rise" and make the cut less straight.-Several smaller cuts are always better than one big one, if you can do such. also, cutting closer to the throat / inside will result in less deviation, depending on what you are cutting. Also, as with any standard tool check if there are any cracks in the cast iron. This is rare, but these boxes get thrown around a lot, and sometimes there might be a crack you might find after it's too late.

Works well within certain limits
Came with a wire edge on the anvil. Took it apart to dress it, but then it takes some work to reassemble because the blade is very tight against the anvil (that's good). Will make a clean cut on paper and sheet metal up to about 1/8 in thick. Anything heavier I would limit to bar stock. Biggest drawback is that there's no provision to get a square cut to the edge of a sheet.

Easily cuts 20ga sheet metal
I'm not a huge fan of the least expensive tool option, but I needed to cut a number of 20ga sheet metal panels for rust repair on a 1970's vintage VW, and dreaded using a cutoff wheel for it all. This arrived well packaged and cleaned up with some WD40. Bolted to my work bench, this cuts 20ga sheet metal better than I expected. Nice clean cuts with not much effort at all. Totally pleased!

Great tool
That’s the third Vevor tool I bought (after two print presses) and again, I have not been disappointed. The model I bought is the 12” shear, which I use to cut gauge 18 copper plates, that come in 12” x 12” or more. The hand shear cuts these 12” plates like paper, and the cut is very clean. I just had to bolt the shear on the workbench, so I could use two hands to pull the lever. The “hold-down” logic is a bit confusing at first, but it’s super useful once you get used to it. I protect the copper so the hold-down doesn’t leave a mark when unscrewing to hold.I checked around before buying the Vevor shear and every tool I found in the 12” range was around $300 after factoring in the shipping.I highly recommend this tool, and the brand.

Beware
The handle comes in 2 sections and they did not fit together properly. There was a lot of horizontal play when making cuts due to loose bolts, when tightened it hardly decreased the movement, which complicated smaller cuts - I assume it’s from poor machining of parts? Speaking of parts - some of them were rusted. It wasn’t possible to repackage the shear for return because I couldn’t separate the handle (my husband had to hammer the steel pieces together when assembling it and essentially it created a cold weld). Amazon came to pick up the item and said it wasn’t necessary to package it even though the directions from the company said it was required, then Amazon said they never received the return and I ended up having to pay for it! The whole experience was so frustrating! I would give 0 stars but that is not an option.
