Is this 7200 or 5400rpm?

Accepted Answer

Only the 1 TB (#ST1000DM010)  and 2 TB (#ST2000DM008) models are 7200, all the larger models are 5400.  Both the llisted speed and model number change in the product description as you pick different disk size options.

This is consistent with Seagate's website -- From the home page, drill down through (or search for) Internal / Hard Drives / BarraCuda - Learn More, and then click the 3.5 inch models tab (NOT the 3.5 inch PRO models tab).  Then click on the data sheet next to any model to get a PDF with a table containing all of the models along with their drive speeds and other specs..

Is a sata cable included in the package?

Cables not included.  You can buy a SATA data cable and likely the appropriate power cable for your computer right here on Amazon.  Depending on your power supply, the power cable may already be connected to it in your computer -- some have that and some do not.

Question 3

Is this really 7200rpm? the model number suggests otherwise.

Accepted Answer

Only the 1TB and 2TB HDDs in this series are 7200RPM.  The higher capacity drives are 5400RPM and only intended as data drives.

When using the 5400RPM drives you should have a separate drive that is either a 7200RPM HDD, a NVMe drive or an SSD for the operating system/as the boot drive.  5400RPM drives will boot a computer but will be noticeably slower than a 7200RPM HDD, a NVMe drive or an SSD.  If your computer is new enough, an NVMe drive would be the best option.  Otherwise, a SATA SSD would be the next best option.  All three are available right here on Amazon.

Question 4

Is the 2tb (st2000dm008) internal hard drive cmr or smr?

I can't speak to SMR vs. CMR but since I see someone said this is unsuitable as a boot drive I will note that I have used this as the boot drive with a dual Windows 10-Xubuntu 20.04 OS install and it has worked fine.  I personally think the load/unload cycle count is set way too liberally, it unloads way too quickly IMO but that is easy enough to deal with and even if it isn't dealt with the drive has about 3-5 years of load/unload cycles built into it and that is worst case where the computer is on constantly (my use case).  Of course if you use it as a data only drive and use an SSD or M.2 for a boot drive this is a moot point as the drive is not accessed regularly.
