You won't learn diagnostic procedures
The book covers what every other book covers when it comes to automotive. It breaks down the components and explain their operation and in the case of this book very well. The book will not teach you to troubleshoot a system. It lacks what every other book written by those who don't have much real world experience and that is a sequence of events. Automotive books consistently miss this most important information. When you look at books on troubleshooting as an example modern gas home heating systems they start out with a sequence of events about how a gas furnace starts up and continues to run. Try finding a sequence of events in starting a modern car. You can't. Yet this information is vital in troubleshooting an automotive starting system. It's no wonder that most mechanics can't troubleshoot electronic problems in modern cars. And critical components in the starting system like your car's immobilizer aren't even mentioned let alone covered.

Alot of European stuff, little theory and the diagnostics will send you in circles - I returned and dont recommend, your call if you buy but . . . .

Not What I Expected
The title leads buyers to expect this to be a step by step how to on advanced fault diagnosis. However it is just a generalized explanation of auto systems and components. Not for the experienced DIYr who has already gained knowledge on what is contained in this book. This book is suited for the 1st year beginning auto tech who wants an overview of what modern vehicles contain for consideration of diagnosis. There are some diagnosis case studies of European vehicles at the back of the book but nothing near what you could learn from watching YouTube videos. Book should have different title.

The book is best ,for those who want to dive deep into the sea Full of practical automobile knowledge, make sure that you must have engineering background in order to get the things understand, and about book -it covers all the topics of electrical as well as automotive electronics, and most of the faults relates to enginesthe pages are good and images are glossy , I think binding quality might give issues in future but all and all this book is a must have for all mechanics ,and interested engineers !

I was expecting more in depth but its a good starter. Maybe the wrong choice for me but its a good summary of current technology.
