Really useful when you have a kid.
I am really happy that I have this wheeze detection device. It is not a device that is only for kids with Asthma Symptoms. As it detects wheeze, which are also cold and flu symptoms, you can catch the right time to start with paracetamol, before it gets down the chest of the kid and get worse. This device is really easy to use and works really well. After one of our daily walks with the stroller, our kid was coughing from time to time for about 2 hours. As this is not normal, I checked for wheeze with this device and it made alarm signal and then I saw that the light Wheeze was on.I checked again and it did the same alarm signal and showed Wheeze again. We started with paracetamol and on the following day we checked again. When you put the device to check with it , after it senses the breathing , it shows white pulsating light around the place that it uses to scan. This means that it is scanning. On the first day it was pulsating for just 2-3 seconds before showing Wheeze. On the following day when we checked again it took some time ,something like 10-15 seconds before it shows anything and then it showed No Wheeze. Also our boy was not coughing anymore. You can connect this device to you phone and the app records all checks and also yo have the option to put information about any pills or anything that you give to your kid.Really useful app and really good device. It comes with a good plastic case ,that will keep the scanning part safe. This gives you the option to put it in your bag and check your kid for wheeze at any time.Perfect for travelling to cold weather places where you have a good chance to get cold.Highly recommend it to everyone with kids.Hopefully my review was Helpful for you.

Of limited practical use
Is my child wheezing or not? This device will answer that with a simple yes or no. And you'll then visit your GP.If you think your child might be wheezing you should visit your GP anyway, so this doesn't add much and costs a lot.If it had a measure of severity then it could be a monitoring tool, but even then it's a job for professionals. Not recommended

Mixed feelings
As a parent of two asthmatic children, I’m in two minds about the usefulness of this device. On the one hand, having tried it, is does seem to detect wheezing, so perhaps it is of use. On the other hand, a bit of a wheeze doesn’t necessarily mean that things are taking a turn for the worse. More things cause wheezing than just asthma, even in asthmatic children.Having a lot of experience of recognising the signs and arranging urgent treatment for our two affected children on a number of occasions, I think that a single peak-flow meter is a better guide; this can’t really be used until a child is three or four, so I recognise that one can’t replace this Omron device in very small children. The other key point is that most parents can recognise when somehow is wrong, and don’t need an instrument like this to tell them. In addition, I’m of the school of thought that asthma can be triggered by association, and if a child associates a device with having an asthma attack, it can become self-fulfilling, so if the child sees the device, they start to panic, and an attack ensues. This may well have its place, but I think that intuition goes a long way, especially with children in the higher half of the age range at which this is targeted.

Use With Caution
There is no substitute for professional clinical advice or judgement. The Omron WheezeScan is a very well presented product but it shouldn't be used in lieu of seeking medical advice. There are many conditions common in childhood and infancy whose symptoms include wheezing. Notably asthma, bronchiolitis, and VIW (Viral Induced Wheeze). Respiratory diseases are best managed by healthcare professionals and should not be self-diagnosed or self-treated by those without formal medical training. Relying on a single device to discriminate between situations requiring intervention and those where symptoms are present but do not require treatment is dangerous, with potentially life-threatening consequences.

Potentially useful
We thought this could be a useful gadget to help with our little ones asthma who was newly diagnosed with it and we were anxious about missing any signs of an attack. The idea is very good and may work for some but for us we realised that while the child may be wheezy at times, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re due to have an attack, they can be wheezy for other reasons such as allergies, colds etc so while the wheeze detecting is accurate it’s not conclusive for us personally. It works well but for me I can tell if there’s something not quite right with my child so while this may be good for those anxious/ unable to tell, for us we realised we didn’t necessarily need to use it every time.

Works well to detect wheezes!
I think it's really important to note that a wheeze isn't necessarily exclusively indicative of asthma, you can have a wheeze for many reasons. But in a child with a confirmed asthma diagnosis, this device definitely helps you be aware of any potential asthma attacks... In a flare up of asthma, which could be due to many things such as air pollution, pollen, or even cold air to name a few... It's important to act quickly and this device will definitely help you pick up on signs of an incoming problem.I think it works great at picking up a wheeze, what you then do with that information is down to you. Overall, I highly recommend this!
