Field Tuff Hitch Mount Grass Seed Spreader with Rain Protector for ATV, UTV, or Utility Tractor, Black

I reversed the platform and mounted on the front of my Kubota RTV allowing me to see where the seed or fertilizer is being spread. Note I saw this on a previous review prior to my purchase. This also allowed the spreader to connect directly to battery w/o jury rigging. This configuration works great. My only complaint would be the power switch is mounted on platform, thus I have to jump out of RTV to turn off power. I would like the power switch on a cable on a cable coming into the cab.

First I would recommend this unt it’s l nicely made and easy to operate. It took about 1 and halfback hrs to build and attach to my cub cadet XT2 42 ( just lye all parts out on the floor, then read band understand what you need to do to assembly the spreader and the entire assembly and test results will go well Will with no issues also others complaint where Electrical connection are not staying connected, I cut down the motor power lead to a foot ( you don’t need 4 ft of wire snd soldered in male / female automotive connectors and heat shrink to protect from water and d dirt and secured to control bracket.... they recommend a trailer hitch ( DO NOT USE THE ONE THEY RECOMMEND ITS NOT STABLE AND MOVES LEFT RIGHT INSTEAD USE The CURT 45006 Bolt-On 2-Inch ATV, UTV Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter IT UTILIZES a TWO BOLTS TO LOCK plate system that secures it in PLACE watch the Curtis video to understand the issue with the other brands..., I’ve used it twice and it does a great job fanning fertilizer and grass seed but just practice and find the perfect drop rate that works right for that application. perform test spreads to learn about the drop and finding the right placement for the shutter door opening snd works great remember this is an electric motor that is spinning to force the material to drop no wheels spinning to cause the dropping of material. When you stop it’s still dropping , you have to turn to drop door,,, See photos to understand the upgrades I made good luck

This thing worked only ONE TIME for me, since then it hasn't worked at all. DON'T WASTE YOU MONEY! Switch to turn spreader on stopped working on the first day, Can't open spreader easily, get's jammed up, doesn't spin, cables get stripped when you try to open it, can't fill up bin because it's not strong enough to spin after, cover is terrible and cheap, thrower has no easy adjustments and will make your job harder. I could go on all day about how terrible this thing is. Also, Is it a joke by this company to make the cable not long enough to reach the battery?!?!?! All around an extremely bad product. I would rate it a zero if I could!

Here is my current assessment of the Field Tuff AS-125ATV12 Receiver Mount Spreader, 125-Pound: Pros: The spreader is well built, assembly instructions are straight forward, the unit worked very well right out of the box. Spreads the 12 foot width as claimed. Cons: Can’t control width of spread or speed of fly wheel, cable that opens/closes the discharge gate is relatively worthless when the hopper is full (you can open, but it won’t close...this is a classic issue with this type control and the manufacturer that “fixes” this issue will out sell everyone else, all things considered equal!), the ads say 125lb capacity while the included literature says 80lbs. Modifications: I made a bracket so that I could attach the controls on the roll bar of my Kubota ZD21F Diesel Zero Turn Mower. Due to the “open/close” cable on the discharge gate being basically useless, I have modified the gate by attaching a 12volt actuator that has a 2” travel distance. It is controlled by a switch I installed next to the on/off switch (I removed the cable controller). I’m working on an indicator that would allow me to see how far the gate is open while sitting in the driver’s seat. I’m also working on sliding sides that would extend from the current guard around the fly wheel to further restrict the width of the spread on one or both sides thrown from the flywheel. These modifications would add cost to the product, but I bet if offered as an option there would be a lot of takers.

Yes, the feed handle is a little wanky, and no you can't really calibrate it, but it does a helluva good job for the price. Put some product in, run it a bit, fiddle with the feed handle, and go. It does have a fairly hefty motor but don't over load it. Ideal if you need to spread fertilizer, lime, seed on a lawn or garden once or twice a year. Hopper is heavy duty. We use it on a five acre horse pasture.

Field Tuff AS-125ATV12 Receiver Mount Spreader, 125-Pound: I mounted this on the receiver of a Polaris 400 Ranger. Pros: I agree with an earlier review, the spreader is well built, assembly instructions are straight forward, the unit worked very well right out of the box. Spreads the 12 foot width as claimed. It needs some work to make it better. I used it to broadcast Sorghum, Millet, and Oats/Whest/Barley mix over a total of 20+ acres using a Polaris Ranger. It worked fine after the issues below were addressed. Cons: 1) There are several electrical connectors utilized throughout. Unfortunately, the wires are crimped and not soldered to the plugs and jacks. I had one wire that easily pulled out of the connector causing the motor to stop. For a product that is going to be used on platforms that vibrate, shake, and bounce better connectors should have been utilized. At the very least, the connections should have been made more robust and reliable by soldering the wires to the connector jacks and plugs as well. Carry a DVM, some wire strippers and wire nuts if you plan on using this out in the middle of nowhere…. 2) The seed gate is 70mm wide by a max adjustable depth dimension of 27mm. When spreading at a low rate, the gate is barely open and the seed does not flow consistently giving an uneven spread. For sorghum, I wanted 8lbs/acre, so I made several inserts to decrease the width of the gate to 15mm, 20mm, etc. This allows the gate to be opened more and give a opening where the depth and width are closer (ex. 15mmx15mm) instead of 70mmx3mm (see photos). This gives a more uniform and consistent flow. 3) The design of the container doesn’t self-empty. There is always some left in the bottom. Modifications: 1) When mounted on a Polaris 400 Ranger, there was a very noticeable front to back downward tilt. I was concerned about getting the proper spread width, so I added a 1” wood block (see photo) to make it level. 2) How do you calibrate this? I took off the spinner wheel, and duct taped a piece of metal duct to the plastic body and placed the other end in a 5 gal. bucket. I then filled the spreader with seed and turned on the motor. I started a timer and opened the gate for a minute. I then weighed the amount of seed that was in the bucket. Seemed to work reasonably well. That is how I found out that the unmodified gate didn’t uniformly dispense seed because the depth of the opening to get the required broadcast rate was slightly larger than the size of a grain of sorghum. At 5mph and a 12ft spread, it takes 8.3 minutes per acre, so for sorghum at 8lbs/acre I adjusted the gate stop for ~1lb per minute.

This is a good little spreader for my Kubota UTV! I chose to mount it on the front receiver rather than the standard rear mount for two reasons. First, it allows the gate control cable to reach the operators position in the cab. In the rear mount position the cable is too short. Second, it gives greater visibility when spreading seed; reducing over seeding and/or missed spots. The only modification that’s necessary is reversing the hopper’s orientation on the support frame. This spreader is not built for daily or heavy duty use. But for small seasonal applications it can’t be beat for the price!

I have used this to plant one food plot and spread fertilizer on lawn. So far it works as I expected and seems to be sturdy. Assuming it lasts I am happy with my purchase and would recommend. I did purchase a 10’ cigarette lighter plug and wire to mine so I can operate from the front of my Mule Pro FXT.

We just got our seeder. We are very impressed with the quality! Instructions for assembly were very good. It fits very well on our Honda Pioneer side by side!
