Sahaja: An Introduction to Sahaja Yoga

Lovely Book, Beautifully Written
This book is one of the best that I have read on the subject of spirituality in general, and Sahaja Yoga specifically. It gently reveals the information from the heartfelt perspective of the writer, who is extremely knowledgeable and well-versed in the history of spiritual seeking, has had ample direct experience with the Sahaja Yoga system. The somewhat stream-of-conciousness style of writing is inviting, and only serves to lend credibility to the subject matter. Highly recommended; I am purchasing several more to give as gifts!

Intelligent and profound
Written by someone who has dedicated his life to spiritual inquiry, this book makes you reflect about the meaning and sincerity of your path as a seeker of truth in the modern world. Intertwined with poignant reflections of timeless fairy tales and the author's personal encounters with Shri Mataji (the guru of the yoga he practices), this book has much to offer in the form of benevolent guidance.

Poorly written
I thought that the subject matter would be very interesting but the style of writing was not very good and it was off-putting.

A Beautiful Book.
If the intrinsic lustre radiating from buried treasure could write a book which guides us to that self-same treasure , "Sahaja", would be that book. The buried treasure is the "Kundalini", a reflection of the Primordial Being which lies dormant or semi awakened within each of us. Upon its authentic awakening, it rises up the spinal column from the sacrum bone and pierces the fontanel uniting us with the all-pervading power. It is the next and most joyful, stage in human evolution. Transforming and balancing.Upon reading Christopher Greaves account, one recognizes the heart-felt profundity of an enlightened soul.He tells of his inner search for the meaning behind existence itself. And then about the spontaneous awakening of his own kundalini in the presence of an inspiring, sacred personality, when he was 26 years old, more than 30 years ago.He then goes on to give a thorough and insightful, description of the subtle system upon which our gross bodies are hung. Often writing as though in meditation.Ever conscious of modern scepticism and the ironic thinking before which this wisdom is being cast.He writes with an eloquent modesty, using quotes and analogy from classic mythology and literature, not for ostentation but for explanation.A jewel of a book....I would recommend it to anyone. Sahaja Yoga
The book I read to research this post was Sahaja: An Introduction To Sahaja Yoga by Christopher Greaves which is a very good book which I bought from kindle. Sahaja yoga is a traditional Indian form of meditation and originally yoga which means union was seen more as a means of meditating. Sri Mataja who died in 2011 was the leader and creator of this and people who learn this don't have to pay anything as she says how can you put a price on enlightenment. Instead people who have been helped in the past and some of them have gone on to be very wealthy fund it. She was married to the boss of the UN Maritime Organization and so was mainly based around London. As a child she knew Mahatma Ghandhi who could tell their was something special about her. She was imprisoned for her involvement in the Free India Movement. The author of this book was lucky enough to be taught Sahaja Yoga by Sri Mataja herself and they became close friends. There was a certain playfulness to her like she loved PG Wodehouse's books especially the humor. The book is more like a biographical work than a how to, to Sahaja Yoga. I went to Sahaja Yoga classes a long time ago and was fortunate enough to attend a meditation she gave at the Royal Albert Hall. They do various exercises to raise the kundalhini or spirit with in you. I have probably learnt more from books about the subject fairly recently and wish I had carried on learning it. They usually give you a photo of Sri Mataji to look at whilst meditating as the image of her and any other enlightened person can help clear your chakras. One of there main principles is if you sit and extend your hands out in a relaxed way you should feel a kind of cool breeze in the palm of your hand. Some people feel a heat which means they have a blocked chakra. This exercise along with doing things like burning nearby candles and if you can identify the chakra placing an ice pack next to it can help unblock it. This was an enjoyable book which provided a lot of insight into what Sri Mataji is like.

Sahaja is a truly great book
Christopher Greaves has written here a book that should be cherished. It takes you into the heart of the love of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, the guru of Sahaja Yoga. There are descriptions of events in England and reasons given why Shri Mataji moved on to Italy.I am really grateful for this book and thankful that Christopher Greaves and other Sahaja Yogis have done this noble work. They deserve medals as big as plates.

If you are a Seeker...
...then you must read this. A touching account of a life spent spent trying to find answers to the 'big questions' regarding our existence. Who are we, where did we come from and where are we going? to mention a few. How can we discriminate between fake and genuine gurus? ....well, you just might find the answer in this book. I found this to be a riveting story of one man's honest and humble attempt to chart the course of his life time of seeking the Truth and how his life was changed by his encounters with Shri Mataji and the practice of Sahaja Yoga. Enough said - this will change your life too.

A good book
A good read. Although the title of the book is "Sahajayoga:An introduction to Sahajayoga" but the contents are much subtle and deeper. An esoteric subject but well written from heart. I would recommend this book to everyone who has interest in this yoga- "Sahaja yoga".
