Funky fantastic!
What an album! I've just discovered the reissues of the Isley's albumns and this one I vaguely remember from the 70's and have always considered them a fantastic band, with Ernie and Ronald amongst the greatest guitarists/vocalists, however, after hearing Voyage to Atlantis again I would revise that and say Ernie is 'the' greatest soul guitarest ever and Ronald 'the' greatest vocalist when you consider how he effortlessly switches from soul to rock, his voice soars....Ernies guitar crys out like no other I can think of (its easy to see where Prince got all his stylings and influences). Harvest for the world is next on my list then Live it up (containing 'the' finest guitar solo in Hope you feel better love). Enjoy!!

All guns blazing!
With all due respect the other review for this album is way off. To say this is the tail-end of their great 70's era is way off the mark as 78's Showdown , 79's Winner takes all and 1980's Go all the way are all strong albums too. Anyway back to Go for your guns, it kicks off with lead off single 'The pride' a synth' and bass heavy track with a strong lyric & groove. 'Footsteps in the dark' is one of the best ballads of all-time, period! Track 3 'tell me . . is another stomper. Climbin' up the ladder' is funk/rock at it's best & 'voyage to Atlantis' isn't far behind 'footsteps' in quality. We end up with the storming 'living in the the life' & it's instrumental sister track 'Go for your guns' rounding off a very strong set. Only 75's 'The heat is on' surpasses this excellent album and the newly re-mastered edition brings the sound quality right up to date without losing the organic feel of the original, enjoy.

When it's Good,it's Really Good
This is the tail end of the Isley's great seventies period, at times it tries too hard to get on board with the full on power-funk of the bands that followed them. But there are two absolute gems in here. Voyage to Atlantis is a quiet storm classic with spine chilling guitar and a beautiful vocal, as good as any ballad they ever cut. The groove on Footsteps in the Dark is hypnotic. if you've ever heard Ice Cube's 'It Was a Good Day' you'll recognise it instanly since he lifted the looped backing track directly from this cut.
