Wonderful product! One suggestion
I purchased this watch for my 98 year old mother-in-law for Mother's Day. She is mentally sharp as a tack but macular degeneration has robbed her of most of her vision. It arrived a couple of weeks before Mother's Day, so I made sure that it was set correctly. It is a little different because it is an ATOMIC watch. That means that it picks up radio signals and coordinates with the Atomic Time Center (I may have the name a little wrong). If you are very careful to read the directions about the first time to set it, you will be amazed at how the hands start spinning very fast until they settle on the hour and minute. I must say that at first the time was off an hour and 3 minutes. I decided that it was probably working from central time. I read that the watch would update every night at 3 am. So, I decided that I would wait and see if this happened. It did! I made sure that it was near a window over night. The three minutes was the most stubborn, but a few days later that had also been corrected. My mother-in-law was absolutely blown away when she opened this gift. She could be heard throughout the house hitting the button for her 'boyfriend' to tell her the time or the date. She said, "You couldn't have given me anything more useful or desperately needed!" Did I say that she absolutely LOVES it?The only suggestion I would make to the manufacturers of these talking watches would be to start putting Velcro bands on them. Since she has vision troubles, and arthritic fingers, it is very difficult for her to deal with the standard buckle type closures. I'm sure that the majority of people these watches are bought for are in much the same situation. When she has to take it off to bath, she needs an easy off and easy on Velcro closure. I am now trying to find a Velcro band to put on her watch. There are not that many to choose from.

Great Talking Watch
I bought my first atomic talking watch a long time ago..., when they were very expensive. I loved it. I can't believe I lost it. Finding another one just like the one I lost was great. Getting it for $30 was even better! I don't know what I'd do without this watch. I set it to 'chime' every hour, which helps me keep track of my day. I don't have to strain my eyes to read the tiny numbers for time for date, I just push buttons. It keeps accurate time and updates itself automatically around 3am-4am every morning. I can always check to make sure it's updated by pushing a button. Sometimes, I like to set the alarm to remind me of something important. It's a little thicker than most watches but what it does makes up for that. I don't like 'dainty' watches, so the size is no problem for me. The leather band is sturdy and has 2 'loops'. At night, the 'hands' illuminate (if kept in the light during the day). When 'he' tells me the date, 'he' states what 'day' it is, the 'month', 'day' and 'year'. When I want to now the time, I push a button and 'He' tells me the 'hour' and if it's 'am' or 'pm'. 'He's' such a gentleman! He only talks when I push 'his buttons'!

Good quality, relatively inexpensive.
Perfect for my friend with vision difficulties. Voice is clear and audible, giving correct time, date, etc., at the touch of a button. With an automatic time zone read, it was initially difficult to understand how to set the correct time. However, with patience & persistence we were finally successful. Has a simple but attractive design, a comfortable and sturdy black leather band & an easily readable face. Rather inexpensive compared to others we looked at.

Good for the visually impaired
This was a gift for a visually impaired friend. He had a talking wrist watch that had stopped working (battery probably died, but he hasn't been able to replace it yet), so I figured I'd buy him a new watch, since you can always use a spare and since I'm across country, replacing his battery was out of the question. Didn't realize this wasn't the same watch he already had. This is atomic, so he said it's much thicker than his previous watch. That seemed to bother him a little at first, but seems like the advantage of never having to set the time more than made up for it. He said the watch arrived running with the correct time, and when daylight savings happened, it took about 2 days for the watch self-set to the correct time. He liked the big face and high contrast numbers. I wish the hands had more contrast. He said the voice was loud and clear. He has no complaints and loves that he doesn't have to set the time. I wonder whether 2 days is a bit long to wait for the watch to reset? He was anxious the first day after the time change because he didn't know if it was going to automatically set itself. I told him I read reviews that said you have to be patient and it might help to set it on the window sill, which he did. If you travel a lot through different time zones, not sure how annoying that'd be, and I don't know if this will reset itself world wide? My friend is currently in Texas. The watch shipped on time and he hasn't had any problems for the four months or so that he's had it.

A perfect watch for me
This is the 2nd time I have bought thistalking watch. The first one worked for more than 5 years on a single battery 24/7. It might still work if I could get the battery changed but most stores won't do it unless you have bought the watch through them. anyway they would probably charge more than the watch cost just to change the battery . I think I may have gotten too much water inside. For less than $20 its not a big deal to throw the watch away if it does not work. I have thrown more expensive watches away. I love this one, wish it had four alarms though. But for the value it is perfect. Easy to read, large enough but not overwhelming for a female. Great time keeping with atomic clock. The only problem I had with setting was with the fire conditions we had in Northern California, it was hard for the watch to connect to the atomic clock . But once the ash and smoke cleared it set automatically. I just love this watch and may even buy a third for a backup. Too many things made for individuals with visual impairments are overpriced. It's taking advantage of people who obviously need the thing but don't necessarily always have funds to pay 60 or $70 for a watch. This one is great. I just want four alarms. I highly recommend.
