A Door Into Time: An Alex Hawk Time Travel Adventure
M**R
Alex Hawk stumbled through a doorway and landed far in the future.
The world he landed in was primitive, untamed, with dangers around every corner, on every path. The natives, if you called them that, wore hand-made, primitive clothing and carried only primitive weapons. Clubs, spears, bow and arrows, hand-made knives were the only weapons seen. And though he was over six feet tall, the natives towered more than a foot above his head. Even the animals were huge!Alex was adopted into the tribe that he wandered into, but first he must destroy his futuristic weapons: his pistol, rifle, extra clips for each and his knife. His weapons violated their way of life. They represented technology they had sworn against. The technology that had destroyed the world Alex came from, into the future with small bands of survivors managed to eke an existence without technology. But his idyllic new lifestyle was soon violated by another stranger finding his way into the future and forced a tribe to accept his forbidden technology and raid villages to make slaves to build his weapons of war, crossbows and massive war machines to rain fire and death from a distance. He brought warfare to the world and Alex couldn't let that happen. Raising and training an army of his own, Alex taught them close quarter combat and developed light, durable shields and longbows. None of this violated their laws against technology and gave Alex a well-trained, well-armed and protected small army to take to battle.Alex, his giant pet dog, the tribe, all great characters with a storyline that winds forward and back, taking us deep into the caves and huts of the tribes. And, of course, the epic cliff-hanger! This is a good read!

Science Free Science Fiction
I tend towards time travel as I am attracted to the "what if" paradoxes, novel logic, and scientific questions it poses. This novel is time travel only in the way Rumple Stilskin is. [spoiler] There is a "shimmering door" that takes the protagonist on a single trip into a stone age future. The mechanism is never explained. Future Oregon is filled with perfect humans of large stature and giant monstrous bears, wolves, snakes, cockroaches and even prairie dogs. Again, no explanation as to how or why this is so.All in all, this book reads more like a fantasy novel... just not my cup of tea.Character development, world-building, language creation, and plot are good. Excellent blow-by-blow description of combat (again, not my thing but wanted to acknowledge). Interesting social commentary on our society's distinctions with conflict and technology.Has a few silly flaws, such as not understanding that the largest pinecones grow on the largest branches, lower in the tree, and out toward the branch tips (female cones).Narration for the audio book is first rate... one of the reasons I stuck with it to the end of the first book.I recognize that many will enjoy this book. Just wanted to explain what did and didn't work for me.

A crater-sized plot hole
So there's a fairly intelligent, if a little curious, dude getting ready to walk through the dark hole in his basement: camos, water, guns, combat boots, flashlight.. and I'm mentally screaming at him to go tie a hammer onto a good rope, and throw it through first. If he can drag the hammer back, the next thing is to securely tie one end of the rope to something in the basement, then tie the other end to his wrist so he can pull himself back if need be. But no, he totally trusts fate that he won't: (a) fall to his death, (b) wind up deep in a lake, (c) discover that he's in outer space, (d) drops into the middle of a battlefield, or (e) steps into some couple's bedroom during intimate bonding.

Only 5 Stars since I can’t give it a10! READ the entire SERIES!
Outstanding series with very rich characters from the first novel to this series ending novel. Well structured mini adventure stories, and this novel provides an excellent series ending. Think of Conan-type novels without too much gore and none of the sex. For those asking, typos were not noticed. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the series, and I am looking for more from this author. I would give it more stars if I could! Thanks to Shawn for the many hours of adventure and fun. Well done!

Sometimes truth can be felt in fiction
This book was a mixed bag. On the one hand, the concept of Time Travel is always interesting to me and I liked that the author had the protagonist go forward in time instead of back as is usual. The main issue I have is that the main character had a four year old daughter who was mentioned at the start of the book and once he goes into the future, she's hardly mentioned again. The book doesn't feel "true" in that no one would just go away and not be trying everything in their power to return to that daughter...which the author tries to explain away by having another character tell him he won't be successful even if he tries and the character just accepts this and never tries...for 3 years. I mean, come on. There is a lot of "world building" which just seems silly and not believable in the least and I found the names all ending with "ah" really annoying. In the end, there were some interesting parts of the book which kept me reading at least, but the entire story just didn't resonate with me on a truthful emotional level, which is so important in writing. Even the most fantastic of stories have some elements of emotional truth to them. I think the author was carried away with his wanting to world build or making his character into a hero (that also didn't feel real at all) that he forgot to make us care. I really had an issue with the forgetting of the daughter until much later in the book. I know there are sequels to this, but for me, this is where it ends. When you are writing more about a relationship with someone with a giant dog in the future than with the man's relationship with his own daughter you have a problem.

Absolutely mind blowing !!
Loved this book !! Original and surprising !! Slip through time , be strong or you're dead !! It's what you don't know that can kill you ! But it's also really important to adapt to your new experience, because life as you knew it is in the past !

Just incredible
This is my 2nd time travel series in a row and is very different due to it being set in a prehistoric caveman-type age but the crazy thing is it’s aeons in the future and post-apocalyptic. Despite my initial averseness to this, I couldn’t put it down and loved the characters. Interestingly there’s no romantic subplot but it’s an emotional read nonetheless. A bit violent for my tastes but fortunately not too graphic.

Loved it
Very cool story. Being First Nations Canadian it resonated with me about how perhaps mankind could return to an honest way of life... someday.

Another Winner from Shawn Inmon
As a fan of Mr Inmon’s Middle Falls books, I didn’t know quite what to expect in this very different type of story.I needn’t have worried. The book grabbed me from the start and took me on a rollicking adventure with the promise of more to come. Highly recommended.
