Strong, sharp, cheap, pays for 5* reviews
This bypass pruner easily cut bamboo branches 1/4" thick. It cuts clean through, no crushing or bending, or passing sideways through the bypass. The position lock is well designed; it keeps the shears closed, is easy to switch, and is firmly fastened. It says out of the way when the pruner is open.I had a small problem with pinching (not cutting) the skin between my thumb and forefinger on the strong and highly polished but sharp expansion spring. However, this problem does not arise if you keep your fingers on the comfortable finger-shaped indentations in the indicated places.I've used it for about an hour altogether. But when I prune, I prune for exercise. So I prune continuously and I'm looking for the largest branches consistent with not bending the shears.I've also bought earlier several highly rated fiskars anvil and bypass pruners. The Fiskars are weaker and flimsier than these; the Fiskars are also considerably more expensive. These shears are fabulously better than the low-end bypass hand pruner I bought from Home Depot in one of their "never heard of this brand" specials. For information, the seller did not contact me about this purchase and, consequently, offered me nothing in exchange for a review.Update, 8/25/2018: I looked more carefully in the package before discarding the envelope. I found there an explicit promise of a gift in exchange for an "honest 5 star review". Amazon reviews are one of the main reasons I buy from Amazon. Bribing reviewers undercuts that value. I continue to enjoy using these excellent pruners, but the note certainly left a bad taste.

The perfect bypass pruning shears!
My last pair of pruning shears were so old and worn out that they simply fell apart. I knew I needed to get a new pair and for the health of my plants I wanted to get the best bypass shears that I could find. The description of these shears and the reviews convinced me that these were the shears I needed to purchase. I received my shears very quickly and proceeded, immediately, to prune my much overgrown plants. The cuts were clean and quick and good for the health of the plants. I have plants that range from very young to almost mature and regardless of the stem size, all the cuts were uniform and, most importantly, as I previously stated, they were clean which helps the plants to heal. Also important is the way the shears feel in my hand and these bypass shears fit the bill very nicely. The ergonomic grip is excellent and actually feels soft but also firm which is important since I suffer from carpal tunnel. The locking mechanism is conveniently located and easy to manage. I also like the strap which not only allows me to hang the shears (rather than putting them down and losing them among all the vegetation, tools and my all "growing" paraphernalia) but putting the strap around my wrist while cutting keeps me from being concerned about dropping them when I'm clumsy or not paying attention as I should be.Overall, these are an excellent choice for hand pruning my plants and there really is no down-side to them. I recommend them highly.

A sturdy, reasonably priced pair of bypass shears.
I've owned about 5 pairs of shears in the last couple of years, trying to find a pair that will cut easily, fit nicely in the hand and stand up to corrosion. I don't know yet if these shears are near the top of the list (full disclosure, I don't buy $50 garden shears. I prefer to pay less than $15 since my wife tends to leave them out in the rain). So far, these shears seem sharp and able to cut through the various plants and branches I regularly trim in my yard. The finish seems resistant to corrosion (we'll see long-term), and, unlike some shears, they don't bind when the blade moves back and forth past the other half of the cutting section. I like the locking mechanism. At least it holds. Half of mine do not reliably lock. My hands are on the small side, so the handles, which are a little thicker than my others, are a little hard to keep ahold of, meaning they open pretty wide for my hands. It's got a nice, strong spring to re-open the shears after cutting something. The spring's not going to fall out, either, unlike some other shears. So, to recap, for the price, I'm very happy so far with minor reservations.

Easy to see!
My husband has been working in the forest at his golf course pulling down invasive ivy and he really likes that he can easily see these pruners if he has to put them down on the forest floor. They work well.

Great for first time gardener
I just grew a garden for the first time this year and learned a lot along the way, like zucchini and cucumber plants have sharp little needles on them and don't just pluck off the vines. These clippers are perfect for trimming and getting fruit off the plant.

They don’t work!
They don’t work because the spring in the handle is broken!
