Miami Noir (Akashic Noir)

Welcome to Miami... now forget everything you've heard.
Think you know Miami, think again. Even if you're a local this book will not disappoint and yes, Miami is a 'Southern' city and I mean southern in the cultural sense. This is an amazing fictional tour through the eyes of some very observant writers. Don't pass on this one, if your a fan of Noir style and sharp tight writing this is your book. And if it inspires you to come see Miami I won't be surprised, I read this book right after moving here and it's why I stayed.By the way Akashic produces a whole series of these and I can bet every one is as good as Miami Noir. I haven't read the others because I'm not ready to move again!

Good collection.
I have enjoyed the stories in this collection. Nothing earth shattering but no duds either. It starts off strong and it was at a bargain price. I sometimes like collections so I can get a feel for an author I've never read before investing time and money in a novel. All in all if you like mysteries and Noir I think you will like this.

SHORT STORIES WITH AN EDGE
This was my first foray into Akashic Noir, it won't be my last. MIAMI NOIR edited by Les Sandiford is superior short stories all drawn around areas on Miami, thus the Akashic handle. Really good stuff here and some great writers. A very nice way to be introduced to those you don't normally read, I know I made some notes to read a few of these authors. I thought the James W. Hall, George Tucker, Vicki Hendricks, Christine Kling and Tom Corcoran stories stood out in the book. I will buy more of this series because I am sure to find rich writers I haven't read. You should try it! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Rediscovering the Short Story
I do not consider myself a short story person. I prefer to get engrossed in a novel and savor the anticipation of returning each time I put it down, and ruing the day I finish it. I mainly bought this book as a means to discover new authors and quickly sample their style and talent. After finishing this book, I have rediscovered the enjoyment of the short story, and have ordered additional anthologies in other genres. I haven't lost my love of the novel, but rather I have rekindled my appreciation for this alternative form.

Very Miami
Easy, captivating read. As a local, I can honestly say this fully encapsulated the Miami aura

Short stories on crime and criminals in Miami sorroundings.
Very enjoyable reading about Miami, its crimes and criminals. Short stories can't be called "literature" but interesting view of a group of local writers.
