I cannot open the battery compartment. i don’t want to force it in case i break it. can i have advice please?

there are 2 battery compartments on the back. slide the clip to the outside edge and lift the cover. each compartment holds 2 AA batteries (the box says "C" battery)

How do I insert batteries ? I cannot even open the compartment.
