I have two seven year old, 3 & 1/2 foot long Ball Pythons, and I would buy these again for them.
Hello out there to all of my fellow reptile, or small animal keepers. I personally have kept for about seven years now, and I am currently keeping two Ball Pythons. The Exo Terra Snake Cave, Large, I find quite perfect to house my Ball Pythons. A really great advantage, is that the two that I ordered about a year or so ago, came with moss for the inside of the caves. Of course, one of the extreme benefits of moss on the inside of my Ball Python Baby Brothers' caves/lairs, is that it is an escape for some added humidity. So every time that I am going into each of my Ball Pythons' individual and separate aquariums daily with a spray bottle filled with water to boost their humidity levels to the appropriate high humidity of %50-70, I squeeze off a spray or two of water, in order to moisten but not soak the moss inside of the caves. The book entitled, Ball Pythons, that I had purchased from my local pet store, clearly states that Ball Pythons actually prefer a smaller more enclosed hide, so the large one of these my Ball Python Baby Brothers absolutely adore. My Ball Pythons are about seven years old, and about three and a half feet long. If my Ball Pythons were maybe between six inches to a foot longer, I would say that this was too small for them. One of the only disadvantages that I ever have from these caves, is that occasionally when I am taking my Ball Python Baby Brothers out of their aquariums to stretch their legs for a little bit, they will hook their tail through the entrance of their cave, and I will be bringing along the half pound cave top. Within a few minute though, I have separated Snake from cave. This has nothing to do with the caves being too small, but just the persistence of my Ball Pythons. One question that I could easily see someone having, is after their bimonthly feeding, are the caves large enough still? Yes, even then they are "tight," but fine. One of my Ball Python Baby Brothers eats one small rat every two weeks, and my other Ball Python Baby Brother eats four large mice, one immediately after the other, every two weeks. It is a slow slither into their cave, but they just make it inside. On that note, the only other disadvantage that I could possibly think of with these caves, is that in being such a tight fit, my Ball Python Baby Brothers end up defecating inside of them quite often. Which is really no problem. I mean, if you have an aquarium pet, regardless of where from, you will be cleaning up their presents that they leave for you.

My California Kingsnake's favorite hide.
I have bought this in multiple sizes as my snake has grown and it's usually where I find him during the day. Add a little moss and it makes a perfect humid hide.

Watch out for rubber bands in moss. Otherwise, as expected.
Overall it's a hit. I read every review, beginning with 1 star (most recent) to 5 stars, which is my method for buying all things Amazon, prime or not. Who wants the hassle...So, I have an albino ball (female, 568g, 4.5ft) in need of a habitat adjustment. Acquiring her "forever" habitat is impractical right now, so my hopes were to maximize space with a more vertical hide (achieved), provide something more enclosed so she can escape the continual stress of my toddler (achieved), dial back the use of my habitat humidifier by concentrating the humidity in this cave (yet unknown), and for Albi to enjoy seamless shedding (should know in 2 days). I will update iF necessary.Albi took to this cave within 1 hour and it's now her default for daytime.Unlike some reviewers, I'm okay that it's not as pictured. However, I would not be okay with it if I had been surprised from not having read the reviews.I'm my opinion, top heavy is better because Albi is less likely to learn the trick and get hurt. She's already pretty thick and heavy for 1yr, so I want to take precautionary measures. That said, do NOT use the moss if you have any Alternative. I found a rubber band and some foreign metal shavings IN the moss that I would have completely missed if I hadn't read another review and decided to shred or with my fingers rather than just spread it out. That is why I have taken away 1 star. Everything else is add expected or better.I've attached a few images of Albi getting to know and love her new cave.

Our Milk Snake Loves It!
Our Milk Snake loves this little cave. It’s one of his favorite spots. It’s easy to clean, fits in small places and he loves to stick his head out the little hole. We’re happy with this purchase.

Looks great, snake loves it, but potentially deadly to small snakes
I received the kind that has a shallow base and a deep top cover. I get why they made it that way - it makes the seam barely noticeable down by the base so from the outside the rock really does look great. My snake also LOVES to hang out in it. Here's the problem though: making the base so shallow is DANGEROUS. My snake is just a little guy, and if I take the lid off and then try to close it while he's in there there's a very real chance of him getting crushed under the top cover if he moves any part of his body (especially his head) past the tiny little lip around the edge of the base as it closes. The top is a little bit slippery to hold on to, and one time it actually slipped out of my fingers back down onto the base as I was trying to lift it and I was terrified it might have killed him. Fortunately he hadn't moved from being curled up inside and everything was fine, but the fact that edge around the bottom base is so shallow has really become a major point of concern. If the edges around the base were just a little bit taller (like maybe even just 1/2") it would do a much better job of creating a boundary that keeps everything tucked safely inside during openings and closings. For now, I've taken to hooking my finger into the hole while lifting the lid so it doesn't accidentally drop (even though it's always a bit nerve-racking sticking my finger through the hole and hoping he doesn't mistake it for a pinky mouse). When I go to close the lid, even though I feel bad moving him out of his cozy little spot, I always pull him out of the base while I close it and then have him climb back in through the hole in the top. Eventually once he gets bigger this won't be as much of an issue, but for now, I'm only giving this product two stars since it could be potentially lethal to baby pet snakes.

Nice size no moss with it!
Nice size for my corn snake, but no moss was with it as stated on the advert. Not sending back over no moss, I'd still have brought it anyway, its just really annoying when an advert states it has something additional with it and there isn't in my case. Only reason given 3 stars is because you've inconvenienced me with missing item that was expected and now I have to go out to buy what should have been inside with it.

Good
Overall this product is really good. I am happy with the finished product however when received, the bottom plate had a sharp chip in it. The alignment of the hide isn’t great and there is quite a bit of movement to the top shell because of this. However, due to the weight of the item it is, as boasted, very sturdy still. The moss came in a small bag, most of it looking very dead. However, I have moistened this and have to wait to see if this will revive it.I do like the product, my snakes also like this hide.I would be cautious about buying the product as well as unboxing. Due to the packaging, it makes it really difficult to see if the item is damaged without fully opening it.

Moss? What moss?
Bought this to go for a humid hide for our royal. The amount of moss you get is like the amount of weed you'd get for a 5er
