Really Nice Beginner's Abacus
This is the second abacus I purchased; the first was W-A-Y too small for my large hands! It feels really nice to use, and the reset bars work perfectly. It even comes with a booklet that gives basic instruction in using the abacus for simple mathematical functions. Overall, it seems to be well-built, and it's comfortable for me to work with.

Really satisfying to use
I don't know why but I love this thing. I wanted to teach my daughter how to use an abacus. So I... had to learn to use an abacus. Hence getting this thing. I learned how to use it from the manual plus some YouTube videos. It's super fun to use. I'm mad I never learned this as a kid! I know I would have spent way too long practicing to be really fast with it and competing with my other geeky friends. It seems really well made and is just... satisfying to look at and manipulate (and listen to). Not sure how to explain it really.

Larger and better make than expected & not too portable
Much larger than a typical soroban. The beads are rounded without the pointed edges most soroban use. The frame looks glossy as well as the beads. This makes quite suitable for decoration. The beads move easily and the reset mechanism is durable and efficient. Overall I would recommend this for someone who is curious about learning to use a soroban and/or anyone looking for a decoration for the home or office. Although this abacus is perfectly usable it's a bit larger and heavy then it's smaller, more portable, counterparts. It's a fine product and I recommend it.

Really like these
Bought two of them and thinking about getting another for our entire class (ages 6-9). They aren't cheap but so far the quality seems really good. The only part I'm not sure of is the dots, they don't line up with any rods, they are in between rods. Not sure if that is how they are supposed to be because the instructions show them lining up with the rods but it doesn't really matter, I think we prefer them the way they are. Really hope they last, looks like they will based on how sturdy it is. Wood isn't cheap either. Thanks!

This is really helping my daughter
I've tried everything (videos, books, base ten, etc etc etc) to help my 6 year old grasp place value and improve her mental math and I finally got her a *real* abacus (soroban) and guess what? She's finally getting it. I'm using it with the HEV Project abacus videos tutorials on youtube and not only is she finally starting to understand place value, but she's also gaining confidence and so far she's mighty proud that she can add 128 + 350 in just a second. Highly recommend this for improving all kinds of math skills.
