willthey grow outside in a shaded are, zone 7?

They will absolutely grow in zone 7, however, they will not grow well in the shade. You can get away with part shade but even then they won’t reach their full potential.

How tall does this grass get?

Over 5 feet tall and not sure about the width but I would say at least 2 ft wide

That depends on your growing zone. I’ve grown it successfully as a perennial for years in zone 4 (western South Dakota).

I just bought these because it says the plant does best in northern climates and i am in minnesota. now i learn that these don't grow in zone 4?!?

Mine does well in Colorado. It takes 2 years to get really large but they do well just don't cut them down below 6" in the fall . Water well. This grass is beautiful all summer long.
