An Excellent Device
If you need a SATA adapter to connect your hard drive to when imaging, cloning, viewing or formatting, this excellent product from Snanashi (a tongue twister) is the device to get. It is well designed, has a long 20 inch connection cable, and works flawlessly. And most importantly, you can use this SATA Adapter to connect to BOTH 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch hard drives (for 3.5 inch drives a power adapter is provided). So you don't have to buy two different SATA adapters, one for 2.5 inch hard drives and another for 3.5 inch drives requiring a power attachment.Even the box in which it comes packaged (a minor detail) has been perfectly and intelligently designed, maybe inspired by Apple products. Finally, and I kid you not, when ejecting the SATA Adapter connected to a hard drive, the device is recognized in my Windows computer as "Best USB Device," (see photo). Indeed I think it's so!Bottom line, if you're shopping for a SATA to USB Adapter for 2.5 inch drives, don't think twice... this is the device to purchase, and the power adapter for 3.5 inch drives is included free. You'll be happy you did.

This is a cool device, WELL WORTH keeping one on hand
The ability to grab any SATA hard drive (2.5" or 3.5") and attach it externally to a PC to scan or pull files off is extremely handy. For that matter, it could work as a nice backup device with a very large hard drive. (Not sure if it'll burn out with too much usage or not, I would not be comfortable with HEAVY usage, but I'm not aware of any actual limitations.)Either way, for a rather small cost, you can get a giant 3.5" hard drive for a great price and use it to transfer files, or as I said, as a backup device. (Or to try to repair or remove viruses a hard drive from another PC, but you don't want to pop open your computer to attach it internally...)Nice work, guys.

Perfect for laptops with no disc drive
I bought it so I could repurpose an internal 5.25" desktop optical drive and it works perfectly with my laptop. Tested on Windows 10, 11, and 3 different Linux OSes and all 5 detected both the optical drive I have and a 5.25" internal desktop HDD with no issues. It also works with 2.5" HDDs with or without the power cable; not sure if power cable is needed for SSDs because mine are M.2 NVME drives. Because of the awkward design, the USB cable may not be long enough for desktop use but it's fine for laptop use.

Why is a good idea to own a USB to SATA adapter
This adapter allows you to connect an internal hard drive to your PC externally. There’s another more important reason to keep one of these adapters on hand, and that’s if you’re planning to upgrade to a solid-state drive (SSD). Unless you buy a kit that comes with an adapter, you’ll need one so you can image (i.e. clone) your existing drive to the new SSD. Then you’ll remove the old drive, install the new one, and presto, you’re back in business. I have two PCs and two laptops and used this device to clone all my drives. Recently, my wife's HDD went back on her laptop. Pulled the bad drive out and replaced with the clone, and the laptop thinks it is the same drive. The alternative is that if your drive goes bad, you lose your operating system and all your installed software. The old style hard drives have a limited lifespan, so this is cheap insurance, as your drive will fail at one time or another.

Doesn't work for IDE 3.5 drives
So...I'm not the techiest person, as I found the name and description of this adapter misleading. It doesn't work on 3.5 IDE drives. If you have ancient drives like I do, you need a different adapter. Learn from my mistake. :(

Compact, Adaptable, Works 100%
Used to salvage data off removed HDD from an older Mac; connections are snug, and the aux power that's necessary to power up the older model HDDs was perfect - high speed data transfer commenced immediately - excellent product, sturdy, excellent price, solid protective packaging - very pleased - this will last for future crashes for sure.

Good product and it works
Extracted all relevant data off an HDD from a PC that would not boot and uploaded it to a Mac. It all worked fine at a good speed.
