I have been through various "Dawn to Dusk" socket sensors for the last month. None have worked at all. The ones I had previously (house brand sold by chain builder's supply) lasted 10 years. I tried to get those again, and the item did not match what I ordered, and of course what they sent didn't work. I found out that the ones that lasted so long were discontinued and no one knows why they're still listed. So frustrating.I almost gave up hope when I saw the listing for the Westek sensors, and they worked flawlessly !!! It's only been a couple weeks, so time will tell and I'll update this if things change. Very happy with this purchase. I was giving up any hope of finding any that actually worked. Thank You !!

Took a little to figure out the first time. Don't give up, and be sure to set up early and try a couple times before leaving on a trip. A little tricky getting the right location for proper response to fading light (in one case had to pull back the drape a couple inches when lamp was off to side of window to get proper turn on; i.e. not too early). Also wouldn't work with lamp that has metal ring to support glass shade (even with shade removed, ring blocked light sensor just enough). Unit extends bulb, so may not work with shade harp. If you can't see the unit clearly, have to remember relative position of 2 different pushbuttons. Works best with bare bulb (no shade) inside or out. Used in 2 interior lamps, and 3 outside fixtures with tinted glass (slight yellow/amber) and 1 pole lamp with clear glass.Tinted glass turned on as much as 1 hour earlier, but not a problem. Be aware of good advice to use lower wattage (I used 40 watt) with lamp in down position (causes heat to rise into unit). All six purchased worked correctly during 2 week vacation. Hope they last a long time, as they are not cheap.

NOTE: many of the poor reviews for this product are several years old. The unit has apparently been updated since then.I bought 3 of these units for all my outdoor lighting, and so far they all work fine using the default "dusk to dawn" mode. (I like exterior lights on throughout the entire night, so the timer function was not of interest to me.)One of the sensors even works fine installed in a ceiling-mounted light fixture located under a front porch, with bubbled glass (not clear), and the photo sensor is able to detect dusk/dawn without issues. This is a darker location that I thought would give trouble, but the sensor works fine.The reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the length of the unit extends the light bulb about 1 1/2 inches from the socket, which can look bad in some fixtures. In one fixture, I had to use a newer "mini" CFL light bulb, which are about 1 inch shorter than a typical CFL bulb, and that worked nicely. This photo sensor should be made smaller, though, even if some ceramic construction is required for cooling, instead of using plastic.Overall, after a few weeks, I'm happy with these units so far.APRIL 4 2013 UPDATE: One sensor that I thought was shutting off in the morning was not (the light fixture is hard to see). I moved the sensor to a brighter location (hit by direct sunlight) and it still did not work. The unit was defective, and the light remained on.With Amazon's great return policy, I was able to return the defective unit and have a replacement shipped without charge. The new unit works fine.Of the four sensors ordered, three worked and one was defective. I purchased these sensors one at a time to see if they would work OK, and the last one did not work. Had the defective sensor arrived first, I would not have ordered the others, so fortunately it was the last one purchased!I'm still amazed the sensor mounted under the porch works so well, since it's a darker location and the fixture has "bubbled" glass, a double whammy. But so far it works like a charm, as do the other two.

I purchased two of these and I should have heeded the negative reviews.If you are going to place this item where it will directly see the morning sunshine it will probably work for you. In my situation where one outdoor light is on the porch facing west, and it only gets late morning or afternoon sun, the unit will not turn off. It doesn't matter how bright the day is, it simply won't shut off if it can't see a broad expanse of very bright sky and perhaps the sun itself.I have another in the back yard facing east and the morning sun shuts it off without problem. I swapped the two units to prove to myself I did not have one with a defective sensor. The unit that now faces the east works fine and the unit that was working now will not shut off on the porch.I don't understand why the manufacturer of this item is not aware of this problem. My guess is that for most purchasers this thing simply won't work as advertised. The programmable feature is a joke. If there is any brief power interruption at all it simply defaults to basic programming (where it still works no better or worse.) The power glitches several times a week here, so that is an annoyance. My coffee pot timer tolerates the glitches and doesn't skip a beat, this thing has to be reset.All I wanted was a sensor that turned on in the evening and turned off at dawn.These units don't perform as advertised. I'm returning them.

En general me gusto este controlador ya que cumple ampliamente con las necesidades por lo que lo adquirí; la programación del mismo es muy sencilla; lo recomiendo ampliamente.

Tried many similar sensors. Most flaky and inconsistent at best but this model works flawlessly. Bought a pair at first. Then another and they all come on all go off like they're supposed to. And a great value.

La entrega fué puntual de Amazón. Es fácil de programar. Buenos materiales. Quizá es un poco sensible a la baja de luz ( nublado ) Pero si lo recomiendo.
